‘Vampire Diaries’: Damon Is Augustine Vampire — Season 5 Episode 8 Recap – Hollywood Life

‘Vampire Diaries’ Recap: The Augustine Vampire Is Revealed

Plus, a long-anchored (pun intended) ship sets sail once again -- and I'm already rooting for them. No boyfriend was safe on the Nov. 21 episode of The Vampire Diaries, especially when pointy objects were involved. Not only did Katherine (Nina Dobrev) successfully purge Gregor from Matt's body -- God, I'm going to miss Zach Roerig's Czech accent -- but her doppelganger also had a nasty encounter with Caroline's (Candice Accola) new squeeze. Needless to say, there's going to be a ton of Facebook status-changing tonight.

While it was heartbreaking watching Jesse (Kendrick Sampson) die, particularly because of Catherine’s reaction to losing her first post-Tyler love interest, I understand it needed to happen. Dr. Wes’ (Rick Cosnett) undead creations, vampires who feed on other vampires, are simply too dangerous to exist in this world — no matter how beautiful they are. And seriously, Jesse was b-e-a-utiful.

Damon Salvatore: Blinded By Science

Speaking of Dr. Wes’ little Chia-vamps, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) spent the hour torturing the good doctor in his lab, only to uncover a mind-blowing truth about his own past: Damon is one of the Augustine vampires, too! The episode ended with Damon clawing at the walls of a cell, suffering from the same kind of PTSD that’s been plaguing his brother since getting his memories back from Tessa. But hey, maybe the Salvatores can get some kind of special brother rate on therapy!

Beremy Go Boom!

On a much lighter note, can we take a minute to discuss how hot Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are together? Even without Kat’s sassy new haircut, that hotel scene — featuring Jeremy’s new man-body in all its perfectly moon-lit glory — was so incredibly sexy, I think I broke all the buttons on my remote. More specifically, the ‘pause,’ ‘rewind’ and ‘play’ buttons. I was so deep in the scene that when Jesse showed up, my first thought was, “Threesome?” Then I remembered he’s dead and Kat was in for a world of pain. (Sorry, girl!)

How Katherine Got Her Groove Back

Racked with guilt over killing Nadia’s (Olga Fonda) passenger boo, and freaking out about her own mortality, Katherine nearly took the plunge this week… right off the Whitmore College clock tower! Fortunately, Mr. PTSD — Stefan (Paul Wesley), not Damon — was there to catch her fall, as well as pass along a few words of encouragement:

“You’re Katherine Pierce,” he told her. “Suck it up!” Hmm… Remember when Nina said that Katherine was falling in love with a Salvatore this season? Methinks she finally made her choice!

Stefan and Katherine’s scenes this week were actually really nice. I liked seeing her calm him down when he was freaking out during the party — who’d have thought Katherine would ever be the voice of reason? — and I definitely enjoyed seeing him return the favor by saving her life.

Katherine and Stefan? Yeah, I ship it.

HollywoodLifers, were you surprised by Damon’s Augustine connection? Are you rooting for Stefan and Katherine to get together? And, seriously, how hot was that Bonnie/Jeremy scene?! Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
