So tragic! A couple and their infant died from bullet wounds after what police believe to be a murder-suicide. Their 5-year-old daughter survived the tragedy by hiding from her parents when she heard them arguing and running to get help after hearing gunshots.
Benyam Asefa, 40, Barbara Giomarelli, 42, and their 3-month-old son Samuel, were found dead in their New Market, Maryland on Nov. 20 of an apparent murder-suicide. The couple’s 5-year-old daughter was not injured because she hid when she heard her parents fighting — and later ran to the neighbors to get help.

Young Girl Survives Family’s Shooting, Gets Help
As police work to put details about the shooting together, the little girl is the only surviving witness.
“We’re still trying to piece a timeline together,” Capt. Tim Clarke of the county sheriff’s department said. “The problem is, we have a 5-year-old who is severely traumatized, so we’re trying to limit the amount of discussion we have with her.”
The girl is in the care of Child Protective Services, according to NBC.
‘The goal is to find another family member,” to take the girl in, said Clarke. “That’s the best thing for a child.”
Our thoughts are with the brave young girl.
