So horrific! An 11-year-old boy was allegedly held prisoner by his foster parents, who ‘regularly’ handcuffed him to the porch to keep him from running away at night. Animal control authorities discovered the boy shivering outside with a dead chicken tied to his body.
Wanda Sue Larson and Dorian Lee Harper of Monroe, NC were arrested on Nov. 15 and charged with multiple counts of child abuse, animal cruelty and imprisonment after police found their foster son shackled at the ankles attached to the porch to keep from fleeing the home. Authorities were horrified to discover that the boy had a dead chicken around his neck, and the living conditions inside the home were even worse.
North Carolina Boy Kept Prisoner With Dead Chicken Around His Neck
An animal control deputy went to the pair’s home in response to a complaint about a loose pig, but then found the 11-year-old boy handcuffed to the porch rail. “A chicken, whose feet had been tied together with string, hung around his neck. The boy appeared to be shivering,” reported WCNC.
Harper, 57, an emergency room nurse at CMC-Union in Monroe, and Larson, 57, a Union County DSS supervisor, were “charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury, false imprisonment, and animal cruelty, because of the conditions of animals found at the home,” according to WCNC.
The pair’s residence was home to their foster child and four adopted children. The 11-year-old and four other children, ages 8-14, were removed from the home by police after their parents’ arrest, along with two dogs.
“As bad as you think that house was on the outside, that’s probably the cleanest part of that place,” said Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey, who explained that the children lived in filth among animals and their droppings, according to WCNC. The sheriff explained that the home had no running water and the children slept all together on the floor of one room, reported The Daily Mail.
Five Children Removed From Home
Police continued to investigate the residence after removing the children, and even looked after and feeding the dozens of farm animals that were left at the residence.
The parents are reportedly in jail on bail of over one million dollars, according to The Daily Mail.
