It was bound to happen sooner or later. ‘Saturday Night Live’ finally fired shots at Kim and Kanye on Nov. 16 with a full skit dedicated to the famous couple. Even host Lady Gaga joined in on the dissing! So was the skit hilarious or just mean? Watch the video and VOTE!
What would happen if Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had their own morning talk show? Well, Saturday Night Live explored that question during their Nov. 16 episode, and the results were not too friendly to Kimye! Will the diss-heavy skit spur another Twitter rant from Kanye, or will he think it’s funny?
Kim Kardashian & Kanye West Dissed On ‘SNL’
With some spot-on impressions — by Jay Pharaoh as Kanye and Nasim Pedrad as Kim — the oft-publicized couple introduced their new show, “Waking Up With Kimye.”
The skit at first riffed on the idea that Kanye is an outspoken boyfriend who’s making every decision for Kim. As Jay’s Kanye rambled on about how he picked Kim’s dress, and how she’s a philosopher now, Kim added enlightening remarks like “Yeah” and “I’m blonde now!”
Then SNL made fun of how Kanye believes Kim is a genius, playing on the Hollywood Walk of Fame comments he made to Jimmy Kimmel. In a segment called “What Kim Made,” Kanye praises a necklace Kim “brilliantly” made out of pasta. “Y’all hear that!? She just changed the game! Food is jewelry now!” Jay yells in perfect Kanye scream-talk.
Lady Gaga Helps ‘SNL’ Mock Kimye
The skit takes an even funnier turn when host Lady Gaga makes an appearance as an Apple employee at the Genius Bar. After Kanye takes exception with Gaga’s character calling herself a genius (because Kanye is the expert on geniuses) and a few more riffs on Kim’s apparent lack of intelligence, they play a game of “Kim Wore It Better.”
Kim reveals that Kanye calls her “The Michael Jordan of wearing clothes,” and then he describes her outfit: “Kim is wearing a Givenchy piece that she initially didn’t want to wear, so I had to put her in it while she was asleep.” And so the skit comes full circle!
We can’t help but chuckle at the sketch. Most of the Kanye jokes are spot-on, if a little exaggerated, and though the jokes about Kim being dumb get close to being mean-spirited, we get the feeling that in the end it was all in good fun. And as Kanye says, he and his fiancee are supposed to be exploited, so we think he might have been angrier if SNL didn’t make fun of him.
