Itching to take a trip? Look no further than Barbados! Find out why it’s one of my favorite islands below!
Thanks to the Barbados Tourism Authority and Rihanna‘s ROGUE perfume, my husband and I got a chance to explore and discover the beautiful land that Rihanna calls home. The delicious food, the clear blue water, and the friendly culture are just a few things to look forward to in Barbados!
Barbados: Rihanna’s Home Country — Party Like Bad Gal RiRi
We landed in Barbados on October 31, a Thursday afternoon. We were immediately met with a smile by our guide at the airport, who helped us breeze through customs. We took a quick 15 minute ride to our hotel — Ocean Two. The hotel staff greeted us with a welcome drink upon our arrival. Once in our room, we could really relax! We had a huge balcony, with two lounge chairs as well as four sitting chairs and a table, so you could sit outside any time, day or night, and enjoy the amazing view. The suite had a full kitchen, a washing machine and dryer, as well as a giant bathroom. The king size bed was comfortable and cozy!
Later, we had a drink in the lobby bar during happy hour (half priced everything!) before heading to Cafe Sol for dinner. The restaurant is on the “St. Lawrence Gap,” a lively strip of bars, clubs and restaurants overlooking the ocean. It’s walkable from many hotels or you can take a quick cab ride for $10 USD. Rihanna happened to be in town and hit up SUGAR Ultra Lounge later that night with some friends.
Our cab driver told us how the island reacts when Rihanna comes back home: “People take her picture but she doesn’t have a big entourage. She usually has only one bodyguard. Her girls from high school just drive around the island with her in her jeep. They just roam. She goes to the mall, the beach and the SUGAR club,” he told us.
Check Out The Hotspot Where Locals & Tourists Meet
On Friday, we headed to the Oistins Fish Fry, a must-do when visiting Barbados, where you can get their speciality, the flying fish, as well as mahi mahi, red snapper and more fish, grilled or fried. Try the macaroni pie, a delicious mac ‘n cheese-type dish. After dinner, watch as local dancers (including a spot-on Michael Jackson impersonator) put on a show on the big stage. At one point, it started pouring rain — but the dancing never stopped! Rihanna came to the fish fry around 3:30am — that’s when things really started to heat up!
On Saturday, we headed to the docks to board the Jammin Catamaran Cruise. The open-bar cruise sails along the west coast of Barbados and stops for guests to jump in the water and snorkel with sea turtles! It was an amazing experience! The ship plays native music and dancing is definitely encouraged! We were also treated to a delicious lunch during the four hour sail. On Saturday night, we headed to Tapas, an open air restaurant next to the ocean which features small plates of Caribbean specialities. We loved the shark fritters, oxtail starter and the delectable napoleon dessert! Of course, I was giving Rihanna a nod, wearing her ROGUE perfume and carrying her studded clutch!
On Sunday, we had to head home, but not before picking up a whole coconut spiked with alcohol, prepared by the amazing and accommodating Ocean Two staff! The vacation was filled with great food, nice people, and unparalleled views. Check out pictures from our trip in the gallery and be sure to add Barbados to your list of vacations — you may end up partying next to Rihanna!
