Creator Kurt Sutter says he’s ‘had discussions’ with FX about continuing the ‘Sons’ saga beyond season seven.
Charlie Hunnam may have said “no” to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, but could he be saying “yes” to a Sons of Anarchy spin-off? The internet is abuzz with multiple reports that creator Kurt Sutter intends to continue his gritty FX series beyond its current run — the show, now in its sixth season, is scheduled to end after its seventh — and Kurt has actually been pretty vocal about his thoughts recently.
The father of Sons spoke with People magazine over the weekend at the Sons of Sandy Relief in Asbury, N.J., and he got candid about his potential spin-off plans:
I’ve had discussions with the network about it, and I think they are open to it. I think there is something really interesting about the origins of the club. And to do a period piece set in the ’60s, post-Vietnam could be kind of cool. I don’t think we would dovetail and start right after the series ended, but it’s something I’m potentially excited about it.
OK, I guess we can scratch Jax off the list of potential spin-off characters, since it sounds like the next chapter in the Sons of Anarchy saga would be set in the past. In fact, E! Online confirms that Kurt has been mulling the idea of a follow-up prequel series for quite some time, but will only begin planning it after the current series has wrapped its commitment of seven seasons.
HollywoodLifers, would you watch a Sons of Anarchy spin-off? If they make one, who would you want it to be about? Drop a comment with your thoughts on the current season and potential spin-off below!
