Jake Gyllenhaal, 32, is known for his intense and serious roles — but while he was on set filming Nightcrawler on Nov. 13, he got a few nasty cuts from a mirror that left him injured! What happened?

Jake Gyllenhaal: Hospitalized After Getting Cut By Mirror Glass

“Jake was filming Nightcrawler when during the shooting of the scene his character (purposefully) banged his hand into a mirror. Unfortunately the mirror broke and Jake’s hand was badly cut up,” Jake’s rep tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

Jake’s workday was 18 hours on the day he was cut, reports People. The actor unfortunately had to get stitches on his hand in the ER.

“The scene was emotionally charged,” a source tells the outlet. “It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else.”

“[Jake] got numerous stitches at the ER and was released. He already returned to set for work,” his rep tells us.

Whew! What a trooper. We’re so glad he’s ok — but now we’re super-excited to see Jake’s powerful scene. Nightcrawler, about LA crime journalism, also stars Rene Russo and Bill Paxton, and is set for release in 2014.

The sexy and muscular actor has been “starving himself” to lose 20 lbs. for his role as a reporter in the film, People said. So intense!
