Charlie Hunnam Quitting ‘Fifty Shades’ Upset E.L. James
The author spoke out to Entertainment Weekly in their latest issue, featuring Fifty Shades of Grey stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. She admits she was upset when Charlie dropped out but goes on to reveal much more.
“It was disappointing, but it is what it is,” she says. “I wish him well.”
She actually admits that she was pleased with the response she received when she replaced Charlie with Jamie.
“It was so lovely that people didn’t know who he was,” she said. “I loved that.”
She goes on to say that she wasn’t sure about even turning her steamy trilogy into a film with Universal and Focus Features.
“I didn’t know if it was the right thing to do,” she says. “And then I thought, ‘I’m middle-aged; when in the hell am I going to get another chance to make a movie in Hollywood?'”
Jamie Dornan: Graphic Sex ‘Works For Me’
So, how exactly do Jamie and Dakota feel about taking on one of the most risky and anticipated roles of the year?
“I was really f–king excited,” Jamie told the mag, when he found out that he landed the role after Charlie Hunnam dropped out. As for the sex scenes (which take up 90 percent of the books), Jamie admitted that they actually “work” for him!
“I’m a fairly worldly guy,” Jamie said. “I grew up in a very liberal place. I’m not saying we had a playroom, but I’m not shocked by [the sex in the book]. It’s essential to tell the story. I can’t believe films that don’t invoke the sexual side of it. So it works for me.”
As for Dakota, it’s a little bit more of a challenge — because she actually feels self-conscious of her gorgeous body!
“Obviously, I want to look good naked,” Dakota, who also died her hair brown recently for the role, told the mag. “I totally understand now why people exercise, because it kind of f–king feels awesome.”
The film hits theaters February of 2015!
