It appears Lorde is attempting to call a truce, having a girls lunch date with Taylor — just a month after spinning her through the diss dryer!
Lorde is definitely no stranger to expressing her opinions frankly, even when it means offending fellow pop stars in the process. However, her Nov. 11 kiss-and-make-up lunch session with Taylor Swift at New York City’s Shake Shack proves the 16-year-old “Royals” singer is just as willing to bury the hatchet when she feels she’s wrong as she is to throw it. Way to go, Lorde!
Lorde & Taylor Grab Lunch In NYC
We’re proud of Lorde for understanding, even as a teenager, that as powerful as it is to speak your mind, it’s even more powerful to admit when you’ve misspoken.
Rumors started circulating of a Lorde/Taylor feud when, in the Oct. issue of New Zealand’s Metro magazine, Lorde was quick to diss the “Sweeter Than Fiction” singer, 23, for being overly perfect, calling her too “flawless and unattainable,” and stating “I don’t think this is breeding anything good in young girls.”
Even Joe Jonas took to Twitter to defend his ex! But unlike her previous disses to Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, Lorde felt badly about her swing at Tay and actually took the time to clarify her statement. She explained, via tumblr:
TS was the first person I thought of, which I regret. She happens to be good looking, but I think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way. Taylor Swift has a very unique vision, which I admire … I will probably never be the kind of role model for my fans that TS is for hers. I admire her very much for this reason.
Lorde’s lunch date with Tay is the icing on the cake of this clarification.
What About Taylor Swift?
As mature as Lorde is proving to be about this, not all the props can go to her. Taylor’s willingness to to spend quality time with someone who publicly dissed her is a real testament to her poise and grace.
And it’s nice to see these two getting along since they do have a lot in common. Both pop princesses are singer-songwriters and released their debut albums at age 16. Taylor could be the perfect mentor for Lorde! Who knows, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Were Lorde and Taylor right in calling off the drama? Let us know!
