The ‘Teen Mom’ star’s motivating force behind getting clean from drugs and learning to control her anger in order to be released from prison early was to be able to reunite with her daughter — and not miss out on any more of the girl’s childhood.
Amber Portwood‘s 5-year-old daughter Leah was a primary motivator for her to sober up and get out of Indiana’s Rockville Correctional Facility ahead of her sentence. Her supportive brother, Shawn Portwood, explained that Leah’s goal was to be able to finally be the better mother that Leah deserves.

“She always told me that Leah was her inspiration to get out,” Shawn revealed to InTouch Weekly. “She never wants to be in a position where she won’t be there for Leah again.”
Amber Portwood & Daughter Leah Reunite
Amber’s first reunion with Leah was incredibly emotional, but Amber wanted to assert her returned presence. “Their first night together, they spent all night talking, doing each other’s hair and makeup, and watching movies,” Shawn told the magazine of the mommy-daughter reunion. “Leah fell asleep in the middle of a sentence!”
Even when Leah fell asleep, Amber didn’t want to leave her daughter’s side. After 17 months away in prison, “Amber wanted to show her that she was there when Leah woke up,” Shawn explained.
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Are you glad Amber was thinking of her daughter’s best interests?
