In a shocking new interview, ’90s rap icon Vanilla Ice opens up to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about how tough it can be to live your life in the limelight, sharing words of wisdom for Miley, Justin and other young artists who seem to be struggling.
It’s not always easy being famous — and Vanilla Ice, who wrote his mega-hit “Ice Ice Baby” when he was just 16 years old, is all too familiar with the pressures and fast-paced lifestyle that come with achieving celebrity at a young age. Superstars like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber are just “trying to find out who they are and transitioning from being a kid to an adult,” Vanilla Ice, 46, tells HollywoodLife.com, adding,”It’s not easy in regular life and when you throw all the fame and money in with that, it’s even harder.” Read on for all the EXCLUSIVE details!
Vanilla Ice: Justin Bieber & Miley Cyrus Are In A ‘Self-Destruction’ Phase
Rapper-turned-renovator Vanilla Ice is all grown up and still experiencing huge success with the debut of his new reality show Vanilla Ice Goes Amish on the DIY channel. But the 46-year-old artist is no stranger to controversy, and he has had his fair share of wild times.
It’s no wonder then, that he can relate to what Miley Cyrus, 20, Justin Bieber, 19, and other young artists who grew up in the spotlight are going through. “I had a weekend once that lasted two years, so I know how it is,” Vanilla Ice tells Hollywoodlife.com EXCLUSIVELY, adding:
They’ll do some things that they regret, and unfortunately for them, it’s more entertaining for us to watch them self-destruct than it is for us to pay attention to their new single. Take Justin Bieber — doesn’t he know that people are watching? They’re just being jack**ses and kind of rebellious. You get higher ratings showing Bieber peeing on people or whatever he did, or Chris Brown beating people up.
“They’re living an artificial life, and it’s probably hard for them to distinguish the difference between that and reality,” Vanilla Ice adds. “It’s just not real. They gotta figure that out themselves, but they’ll be okay as long as they have good friends and family around them.”
Vanilla Ice doesn’t want his advice to be misconstrued as a diss, though.
“I do like all of them, by the way. They’re just going through the self-destruction part of being a celebrity. Hopefully they’ll survive it and not do too much damage, ” he says.
Justin Bieber Filmed Sleeping In Bed By Sexy Brazilian Girl
Justin definitely hasn’t been on his best behavior while on his “Believe” tour in South America. After he was photographed illegally spray painting a wall in Colombia and visiting a popular brothel in Rio, the Biebs was caught red-handed once again when a Brazilian girl who seems to have spent the night with him posted a video of him sleeping in bed on Nov. 7.
Miley Cyrus Smokes A Suspicious Cigarette Onstage At MTV EMAs
Miley has also been courting controversy lately, lighting up a suspicious-looking cigarette when she took the stage at the MTV EMAs to accept her award for Best Video.
In a white french-cut bodysuit, draped in fur, Miley accepted her award while taking a long drag from what appeared to be a marijuana joint, leaving viewers in complete shock.
The awards were in Amsterdam, where marijuana is legal, so “she probably won’t get in trouble,” TMZ reports — but the stunt still further cemented Miley’s bad girl image.
