Courtney is finally speaking out about her imminent divorce from Doug in an exclusive clip from E! News.

“I want to be free and embrace my independence and not neglect my youth,” Courtney tells the site.

So sad — especially because Courtney used to lovingly call Doug her “soulmate.” The controversial pair made it far beyond anyone’s expectations, almost hitting the three-year mark on their marriage, but it looks like it just wasn’t meant to be.

Courtney clearly has some growing up to do — and we’re totally behind her.

Courtney Stodden Saw Doug Hutchison As A Father Figure

It’s been a tough year for odd couple Courtney and Doug — so their Nov. 5 split may come as no surprise to some. The Daily Mail reports Courtney’s stint on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK and her flirty encounters with housemate Mario Falcone, 25, drove Doug over the edge. Courtney was starting to feel more “independent” from Doug, who was becoming more of a father figure than a partner to the teen.

And in 2012, we saw their marital troubles play out on-screen when the couple were featured on Couples Therapy. Courtney was accused of texting her ex — and age of course played a major role in their arguments. We’re guessing their issues weren’t resolved when the cameras were off.
