So tragic! A 3-year-old girl walked a 1-mile distance to her grandmother’s house to get help after her mother was killed in their home. The little girl was familiar with the route to her grandma’s home after having walked it in the past with her mom.
A 3-year-old Mascotte, FL. girl walked a mile’s distance down a busy road to find help after when the found her 26-year-old mother, Kristi Lynne Delaney, unresponsive. Kristi’s boyfriend and daughter’s father, Johnny Lashawn Shipman, 36, was named by the sheriff’s department as the sole suspect in the young mother’s murder.
Florida Toddler Walks Mile To Find Help After Mother’s Murder
The brave toddler journeyed to find help when she couldn’t wake her slain mother, who police believe was killed by her on-and-off boyfriend.
When the little girl arrived at her grandmother’s home, she told her that “mommy is sick,” according to The Daily Mail.
“Shipman did not live in the home with Delaney and her daughter,” reported The Huffington Post, though police “would not disclose exactly what the girl saw or told investigators, or whether she identified the assailant as her father.”
The suspect fled following the incident, and police believe he may have left the state of Florida. “Shipman has an arrest record that includes battery, burglary and drug charges since 1995,” reported The Daily Mail.
Florida Toddler Described As ‘Heroic’
Police were impressed with the distance the little girl was able to cover. Sgt. Kristin Thompson of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department said that the girl’s efforts were “kind of heroic.” “That’s quite a distance for a 3-year-old,” Thompson said.
The toddler has since been taken into care by the Florida Department of Children and Families.
