So heartbreaking. The soulful singer shared a very personal message with her fans, revealing that an ectopic pregnancy developed into major health problems and caused her her to lose her pregnancy.

Vanessa Carlton announced on Nov. 5 that she lost her pregnancy and was recovering from surgery after having one of her fallopian tubes removed. Doctors discovered that her embryo had settled in her fallopian tube and they needed to perform emergency surgery when Vanessa experienced internal bleeding.

Vanessa Carlton Loses Pregnancy: Singer’s Fallopian Tube Removed In Emergency Surgery

Vanessa revealed her scary health diagnosis and the loss of her first pregnancy on her Facebook page:

I announced that I was pregnant during the first week of tour. The day after our NYC show on Oct. 15, I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy, or in my case it was a fallopian pregnancy (the embryo settled in my tube, which is the width of a straw.)

This is not considered a viable pregnancy because the fetus cannot develop and it is a high risk situation for the mother because of the potential for tubal rupture and internal bleeding. We caught it relatively early so I was given a shot of Methotrexate, a mild chemotherapy instead of having surgery.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. On “Oct. 28, 11 days after the chemo shot and despite our best efforts, my tube started to rupture and I was experiencing internal bleeding,” Vanessa continued of her worsening condition. “My doctor performed a successful surgery and removed my entire right fallopian tube.”

Vanessa Carlton Opens Up About

Vanessa shared the details of her condition to help other women.

On the bright side my other tube and ovaries are perfectly healthy. I also wanted to note that there is a theory that an appendectomy I had when i was 12 (for a ruptured appendix) had screwed up my right tube with scar tissue etc, and that’s why my embryo got caught in the tube. In case you are a woman with a past appendectomy definitely take note.

Even through this devastating experience, Vanessa apologized to her fans for canceling shows — and she promised to reschedule as soon as she is healthy.

Our thoughts are with Vanessa and her fiance at this incredibly difficult time, and we applaud her bravery for sharing her story with her fans.
