Amber Portwood Out Of Jail: ‘Teen Mom’ Star Released From Prison Early
Amber was released from prison after serving one year of her five year sentence. She was even released early of her projected Nov. 6 date, and left the facility on Nov. 4!
She was greeted by her mother Tonya and brother Shawn Portwood — and the MTV camera crew.
Amber was given her court-ordered 5-year prison sentence after she chose not to complete a drug rehab program following her charges of drug possession and parole violations in Dec. 2011. Through her successful efforts to get sober and for good behavior, Amber was released early.
Amber Portwood Matured In Prison
Amber’s brother Shawn was very supportive of her recovery process.
“She’s really grown and matured — she completed her drug rehab [in prison]. she got her G.E.D., she completed parenting classes, and she became the administrator of the CLIFF program, which helps inmates get sober,” Shawn told OK! magazine.
“She did so well in cleaning herself up, that she spent most of her jail time helping other girls get clean,” he explained.
Amber’s brother isn’t her only support system! Fellow Teen Mom alum Jenelle Evans spoke out to encourage Amber.
“For all of you who thinks the worse of Amber Portwood, I hope that when she gets out she changes her life around for the better and proves to all of you that SHE CAN DO IT,” Jenelle posted to Sulia on Oct. 30. “She can stay sober and be a good mother. I don’t know everyones opinion on Amber but I do hope you give her a 2nd chance to prove herself to us all. Good luck Amber!”
