Ever since Cory’s tragic death, Lea has been mourning the loss of her boyfriend and co-star — and in a new interview, she finally opens up about how she’s getting through this tough time.
Lea Michele Opens Up About Cory Monteith
After the loss of her loved one, nobody would blame Lea if she broke down in tears during public appearances — but the Glee actress says she wants to be strong. “Now that I’m in this position, you can choose to rise, which is what I’m going to try to do,” she tells Elle. “It’s very hard. And you have to be very strong to come out of this alive, but I think by doing the best for myself, by showing that you don’t have to lose yourself, maybe someone else will feel some sort of strength or comfort.”
How brave of Lea! She also says that she hopes Cory’s death might inspire people struggling with addiction to get help. “I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people,” she confesses. “I don’t know if I will. I don’t know how.”
And Lea revealed the person she turned to first after Cory’s death: her Glee co-star Kate Hudson. “I called her and said, ‘I don’t know where I’m going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters.]’ She was like, ‘Oh, you’re going to stay at my house.’ Like it was nothing,” Lea reveals. “She let my family stay there, and any of my friends. She made sure that in the refrigerator were my favorite juices. I’ll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me”
Lea Michele’s Romance With Cory Monteith
Even though Lea is trying to move on, she still remembers her love for Cory. And she revealed that their romance started early on — they first briefly dated when Glee began but “no one really caught on.” Then in 2011, “We just looked at each other and we were like, ‘You wanna do this?'” she says. “We knew.”
