Red Sox win big at home with a dominating 6-1 victory. After defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in four out of six games, the Boston Red Sox have earned the title of 2013 World Series champions. Are YOU glad the Red Sox won?
Game 6 of the 2013 World Series was highly anticipated for baseball fans — after all, it was the game to either grant the Boston Red Sox their championship title OR tie them at three games with the St. Louis Cardinals, which would have led to one final deciding game. But on Oct. 30, the Red Sox beat the Cardinals to clinch their first World Series title at Fenway Park since 1918!
Boston Red Sox Win World Series — Red Sox Beat Cardinals In Game 6
Game 6 definitely kept us on our toes, but the Red Sox started off stronger than ever! In the bottom of the third inning, Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino hit a three-run double, giving the Red Sox a 3-0 lead over the Cardinals. And just an inning later, the Red Sox added three more runs!
Red Sox fans are extra excited about this win because this is the first time the team has won the World Series on their home field since 1918. The Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 and 2007, but they have struggled since then. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have been a mostly consistent team, winning the World Series in 2011. Well, the Red Sox certainly showed us who’s back on top again!
Red Sox Take An Early Lead During 2013 World Series
The Red Sox took the lead right off the bat in the 2013 World Series when they annihilated the Cardinals 8-1 in Game 1. The Cardinals didn’t go down easy, however, winning both Game 2 and Game 3. Little did the Cardinals know the Red Sox would come back stronger than ever to finish them off by winning the next three games in a row — including Game 6, making them the 2013 World Series champions.
Red Sox Win After Boston Bombing Tragedy
Boston Strong banners waved proudly while the Red Sox jumped out to an unconquerable lead. The Sox couldn’t have done a better job of lifting up their city just six months after the tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon on April 15. Boston Strong became a rallying cry for the city, and the Boston Red Sox were the face of the movement.
“This is for you, Boston. You guys deserve it,” World Series MVP David Ortiz said after the game. “We’ve been through a lot this year and this is for all of you and all those families who struggled.”
