James Taylor was scheduled to perform the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ before game two of the World Series, and ‘America the Beautiful’ during the seventh inning stretch. However, he combined the two accidentally right in the beginning! Watch the video below — do you think he did a good job of covering up his mistake?
“Fire and Rain” singer, James Taylor, has been in the industry long enough to notice a mistake and fix it right away! And he did just that on Oct. 24 before the Boston Red Sox took on the Arizona Cardinals at Fenway Park for game two!
James Taylor Messes Up National Anthem
“Oh, beautiful,” he started with the lyrics of “America the Beautiful.” However, without missing a beat, he started singing the National Anthem, going right into “Oh say, can you see.”
It was like he created a mashup of the two patriotic songs (take note, Glee)! We’ve seen quite a few flubs during these performances, and the 65-year-old singer covered it up and made it flow perfectly.
He performed the rest of the song, with guitar in hand! Then during the seventh inning, he came back out and performed “America The Beautiful,” while survivors from the tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon stood on the field.
Naturally, viewers took to Twitter, some supporting and some bashing the singer. Here are two of my favorite reactions:
James Taylor’s start-up goof should not detract from him doing one of the most beautiful versions of national anthem ever.
