Rob would have made an amazing Christian Grey, but unfortunately he had to decline the highly sought-after role because he couldn’t fit it in his schedule.
Author E.L. James based Christian Grey on Robert Pattinson, but sadly, the British stud will not be bringing the sadomasochistic character to life in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. Read on for all the EXCLUSIVE details behind Rob’s decision.
Robert Pattinson Turned Down Christian Grey Role — Why He Passed On ’50 Shades’
Ro, 27, admitted he read the best-selling book Fifty Shades of Grey and he even spent time with its author, E.L., but the busy actor just couldn’t commit to the challenging role.
“The real reason Rob turned down 50 Shades of Grey is that it just doesn’t fit his work schedule. He read the script and was more than flattered when he was offered the role, but he is already committed to like three other films,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “It had nothing to do with the film somehow prolonging his sex status Twilight image.”
Rob currently has three films in pre-production: Mission: Blacklist, Queen of the Desert and Hold on to Me. But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t interested in doing Fifty Shades.
“He even joked that if he were to star in the film, he would buy his own personal tanning bed and would be working out even harder than he already does,” says the insider.
Who said Christian Grey has to be tan? Rob looks perfect just the way he is. After all, the role was made for him — literally!
Charlie Hunnam — Did He Drop Christian Grey Role Because Of Robert Pattinson?
Who doesn’t want Rob’s fame? Apparently Charlie Hunnam!
One of the reasons Charlie, 33, walked away from the coveted part was because “he didn’t want to be typecast. He didn’t want the Robert Pattinson-esque attention that would come along with taking on this role,” according to People.
