‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Cristina Fights Meredith — Season 10 Episode 5 Recap – Hollywood Life

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: Cristina Makes A Shocking Accusation

Plus, one of the doctors makes a bad first impression & Arizona wonders if she slept with someone else... again! The competition among the doctors heated up on the Oct. 17 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. In what was supposed to be a ground-breaking surgery they would do together, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) came to blows as to who is the better surgeon! Take your pick, and let’s dig in.

Meanwhile, Callie (Sara Ramirez) was still crashing at the Grey-Shepherd house; as Callie said, she’s rebounded to the McDreamys. In fact, the three of them have gotten so used to each other that Meredith and Callie accidentally kissed each other goodbye!

How I Met Your Mother

Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) was nervous about Jackson (Jesse Williams) introducing her to his mother, Catherine (Debbie Allen). She didn’t want Catherine to think she was out for the money and the Avery name. Also, Catherine is pretty darn intimidating.

Stephanie was all prepared to meet Catherine — until Jackson wanted some quality cuddling time in the on-call room. And that’s when Catherine walked in on them! Things just got awkward.

To make matters worse, Stephanie was forced to scrub in on a surgery with both Jackson and Katherine. And the surgery was on a guy’s penis, so Catherine didn’t spare the sexual jokes.

At the end of episode, Stephanie succeeded in making a good impression on Catherine. She owned her quickie with Jackson, but said that meeting Catherine meant a lot to her. She wants Catherine’s respect, and I think she is going to get it.

Brutal Honesty Hurts

Meredith has had to deal with a lot over the past few months — and, frankly, years. She’s juggling a new baby, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) and a surgeon’s life, and her multitasking got the better of her on tonight’s episode. And, of course, Cristina called her out on it.

Zola managed to cut her head open at daycare and Meredith ran to her side. She thought she would make it back in time for the heart-liver transplant she and Cristina were planning to do together, but it wasn’t meant to be. Cristina told her that Bailey was now doing it.

Cristina said she was thinking about the patient, while Meredith would be thinking about a thousand other things during the surgery. (The truth hurts, Meredith.)

“You’re unprepared, unfocused and you were late,” Cristina told her.

And when Meredith said she was just as capable a surgeon and Cristina, Cristina said, “No, you’re not.” BURN.

Cristina explained that Meredith has different priorities now, and that’s OK. The reason Callie and Bailey are still great surgeons is because they never let up, while Meredith has. Cristina continued to twist the knife, saying that because Meredith let up, it has effected her skills.

This revelation is going to shake things up between Cristina and Meredith. You don’t just say that to your best friend and forget it!

Sins Of The Father

Alex (Justin Chambers) continued to not acknowledge his father’s existence in the hospital, but Jo (Camilla Luddington) tried to fix that. She wanted to salvage his relationship with his father because she never had one.

However, Alex wasn’t going to give in so easily. He wanted her to stop talking about it ASAP. Jo tried to save Alex’s dad, Jimmy (James Remar), by getting him a prepaid spot at a rehab center. But being a Karev, Jimmy doesn’t want her help.

When Alex and Jimmy rode on the elevator together, it was like Jimmy didn’t even recognize his own son. It was heartbreaking to watch. You have to give me more than this, Shonda! I can’t take this heartbreak!

About Last Night…

If you didn’t already know, Arizona got pretty wasted at the gala. In tonight’s episode, Leah (Tessa Ferrer) talked up to Arizona about the great night they had together.

Did Arizona sleep with someone else other than Callie, again?!

Arizona worried the entire episode, as did I, about whether she did another dirty deed. Rest assured, Calzona fans, Arizona did not sleep with Leah. They just hung out, danced and ate grilled cheese.

Looks like Arizona might take up Leah’s offer to stay at her place after Callie kicked her out. I get that Callie is still mad, but she needs lay off Arizona a bit. People make mistakes, but people also forgive the ones they love.

Other Notes Worth Mentioning:

  1. Catherine wanted Richard to come home with her so she could nurse him back to health. “These fools need me,” Richard replied. Finally, the real Richard is returning. PRAISE!
  2. There was a throwback to earlier Grey’s seasons with Callie dancing in her underwear at the end of the episode as she moved back into her apartment.
  3. Meredith let out her frustrations to Derek (Patrick Dempsey) about how she shouldn’t have to choose between being a good mom and a good surgeon. What Meredith needs to realize is that she may be good surgeon, but she’ll never be a great one like Cristina if she has to be a mom too.
