Though the world is filled with a bunch of undead monsters hungry for brains and guts, Rick and his rag-tag team have constantly found themselves fighting harder against other humans. And they’ve (mostly) prevailed every time. But what will be in store for them as Season Four kicks off?
Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and company won the war at the end of Season Three against the Governor and Woodbury (or rather, the Governor went crazy and won it for them), taking in a ton of the town’s citizens and ensuring safety for themselves. At least that’s what we thought.
It’s Always Sunny In Zombieland
For the time being things look pretty sweet at the jail. They actually seemed to have gotten pretty good at the whole living in a post-apocalyptic zombie world. Flowers are growing, crops have been planted, there are horses and pigs named Violet!
Love is in the air too — between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), and newbies Tyreese and Karen. Blondie Beth has a bit of a boyfriend too!
But all that sunshine just illuminates how many undead corpses are churning just outside the gates. There are a lot of them. And they’re everywhere.
Rick Faces An Unfamiliar Problem
While on a food run, Rick — who still seems on the shaky side — stumbles upon a very ragged, very hungry, very Irish (?) woman. And again Rick has to decide whether to let more people join his group.
I like this girl, even though she looks like the girl from The Ring. It’s probably the accent.
I should have known better though. This Irish vixen was just luring Rick back to her camp so that she could… feed him to her zombie husband. Not cool, new girl!
Seeing that Rick is on the verge of killing her, she does it herself to join her beau in full zombie mode.
Totally weird, and yet another traumatic experience for Rick, but this odd encounter does clue us in on the three questions Rick and his group ask new people before letting them join: “How many walkers have you killed,” “How many people have you killed,” and “Why?”
The Grocery Run Gone Wrong
Elsewhere Daryl, Michonne (Danai Gurira), and a few others — including new group member Bob, who has to be a big deal because he’s played by the guy who played the best friend in The Waterboy — go for a supply run to a local grocery store that has a roof-full of walkers.
Who yes, drop into the store when Bob’s alcohol problem sets off an unfortunate chain of rooftops caving in. Told you Bob would be important to the plot!
As you can imagine, it’s straight-up chaos. Everyone’s doing what they can to ward off the walkers, but when zombies are literally raining down on you, you’re sort of at a disadvantage. Bob makes it out by the skin of his teeth, but Beth’s boyfriend definitely does not — he gets eaten in every way imaginable.
This is definitely a new chapter in The Walking Dead. Things seem better (maybe?), everyone seems smarter — but they’re all just trying to ward off death for one more day. And most are not successful — like the boy with the glasses who dies mid-shower from an ominous virus and turns into a walker.
