Looks like the search for Christian Grey is back on! Universal Pictures announced on Oct. 12 that Charlie, who had originally been cast, would not be taking on the male lead role in the movie adaptation of ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey.’
The casting for the movie version of Fifty Shades of Grey is still not set in stone, after Universal Pictures dropped the huge bombshell that Charlie Hunnam, the actor who had originally been set to play Christian Grey, was dropping out of the movie. So who do you think should replace him?
Charlie Hunnam No Longer Starring In ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’
The studio behind the Fifty Shades movie released a statement breaking the news on Oct. 12:
The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.
After the news broke, the book’s author EL James said her goodbyes to Charlie on Twitter:
I wish Charlie all the best. x

Charlie is currently the star of the FX show Sons of Anarchy. He had initially seemed excited about taking on the role of Christian, telling HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “I knew that I wanted to do it.” We wonder if Charlie’s SOA schedule really did end up being too grueling, or if another unknown obstacle arose to make Charlie and the filmmakers change their minds.
Regardless of what happened, Dakota Johnson, who was cast as Anastasia Steele, is now flying solo for the moment. Could she end up losing her role too if she can’t strike up the right chemistry with whoever replaces Charlie?
Charlie Hunnam Gets Mixed Feedback As Christian Grey
The news of Charlie dropping out is either good or bad, depending on where you stand. After it was announced that he would be playing Christian on Sept. 2, fans to took Twitter to express their reactions, and the feedback was noticeably mixed.
Some loved the blond hunk for the role, while others hated him: “Of all the people, they pick those 2 to be the characters for fifty shades of grey? ugh why,” one fan wrote, while another posted, “Hate Fifty Shades with a passion, but I will go see it if Charlie Hunnam is in it.”
Now the Fifty Shades team gets a do-over. So who’s it going to be? Is Robert Pattinson back on the table? What about Ian Somerhalder? Tell us who you think should be cast as Christian Gray, HollywoodLifers!
