Just when you thought this story couldn’t get any more heartbreaking, a new report claims that Adrian had just recently learned that the child who was brutally beaten to death on Oct. 9 was his, and that the only time he was able to see his poor child was in a hospital bed. Read on.
Adrian Peterson must be going through a world of pain right now — his two-year-old son died on Oct. 11 after sustaining horrific head injuries from a brutal beating allegedly at the hands of the child’s mother’s boyfriend, Joseph Patterson. But what’s worse, Adrian reportedly did not even get a chance to know his son before he passed away.
Adrian Peterson Only Recently Learned He Had Another Son
The Minnesota Vikings running back was reportedly approached by the child’s mother, Ann “Ashley” Doohen, about three months ago with news that he was the father of her two-year-old son, according to TMZ.
A.P. reportedly did not question Ann, and instead immediately asked how he could help. The football star was reportedly making plans to make his first visit to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Ann and his son lived, in late October, so that he could spend time with the child and be a present father to him.
Tragically, things did not go according to plan.
Adrian Peterson Meets His Son Just Before His Death
When Adrian heard the news that his son had been rushed to the hospital after being horrifically beaten, he dropped everything and flew immediately to Sioux Falls, TMZ reports. And the first time he ever saw his son in person was when he was on life support, laying in a hospital bed. Just awful.
On Oct. 11, the boy’s family decided to have him taken off of life support, and he died soon after. Ann reportedly made the decision to have his organs donated to other people in need of transplant, a choice that Adrian suggested and supported, according to TMZ.
As for Joseph Patterson, the mother’s boyfriend who has been arrested for aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault, A.P. has reportedly never met him.
This is just such a tragic story, and with news that Adrian had just recently learned about his son makes it even harder to swallow. Their relationship was blossoming, and unfortunately abruptly cut short. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Adrian and his family.
