It was the most heartbreaking episode of ‘Glee’ yet, with the cast members grieving over the loss of Cory — but Lea’s brief, yet striking appearance, didn’t leave a dry eye anywhere.
Lea Michele Cries That She Will Forget Cory Monteith’s Voice On ‘Glee’ Tribute
Poor Lea. Cory’s real-life girlfriend had the tough task of filming a tribute episode for Finn. Her grief couldn’t have been more on display when she burst into tears during her brief Glee appearance.
Lea’s character, Rachel, returned to McKinley High for quarterback Finn’s memorial. Finn had previously passed away in an episode three weeks previously.
She came in at the end with a plaque that she made in memory for Finn — the perfect way to show her love for him. Her character asked Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) how he was doing. She was the only glee club member who did.
Mr. Schuester asked in turn how she was doing.
“I’ve no idea,” said Lea, whose character moved to NYC last season. “I talk to him a lot. I can still see his face.” She began her confession about her biggest fear. “I can hear his voice so clearly. Do you think that I’ll ever forget it? Because I’m afraid that one day I will.”
She continued, “I had it all planned out. I was going to make it big on Broadway and maybe do a Woody Allen movie and then, when we were ready, I would just come back and he’d be teaching here and I’d walk through those doors and say, ‘I’m home.’ And then we’d live happily ever after.”
Mr. Schuester said that was a good plan, and asked if she ever told Finn.
“I didn’t have to [tell him]. He knew.”
Lea’s speech surely had viewers’ eyes overflowing with tears. Mr. Schuester then asked if there was something different, or better, on her horizon.
“I don’t think that’s possible — he was my person.”
It was clear that Lea spoke from the bottom of her heart. In her brave appearance, we truly saw Rachel as Lea, grieving for Cory in real life. The heartbreaking moment definitely won’t ever be forgotten.
Even though Lea didn’t watch the episode when it aired, she was very “proud” of it. What did she say?
Lea Michele Thinks Cory Monteith’s ‘Glee’ Tribute Episode Was ‘Perfect’
Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed in an earlier interview that the episode would show the cast grieving.
Cory’s tribute did just that. It dealt with the many stages of grief and the different ways that people react. Some people go into denial, while others get angry. The episode showcased that beautifully.
We’re so happy that Lea loved Cory’s tribute episode. We thought her appearance was beautiful, touching — and unforgettable.
