After Kayne unleashed on Jimmy on Twitter in response to a spoof video the late-night comedian made about his BBC interview, Kanye made an appearance on Jimmy’s show to hash out their disagreement — but things got a little heated again!
Kanye West and Jimmy Kimmel haven’t exactly been on good terms lately, so we weren’t sure what to expect from their face-to-face meeting on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 9. But the two stars quickly put an end to their short-lived “rap feud” after Jimmy apologized and Kanye admitted that he was taking his frustration with the media out on Jimmy. So why is Kanye still so mad? Maybe because Jimmy called him a “jerk!” Read on for more details.
Kanye West On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ — ‘Rap Feud’ Over
Jimmy started the interview off right with an apology for taking quotes from Kanye’s BBC interview out of context for the skit on his show. Jimmy played the video as a refresher, and while the audience seemed afraid to laugh, Kanye actually had a little chuckle himself!
The Yeezus artist didn’t quite apologize to Jimmy (that’ll be the day!), but he did admit that his not-so-friendly phone call to Jimmy got out of control, and confessed that he was taking all of his anger at the media out on him. “We kind of took it back to high school,” he said.
Kanye explained that he freaked out because he’s sick of the way people “treat celebrities like zoo animals.” He’s also sick of people dissing him just for bringing the truth. “I’m a creative genius, and there’s no other way to word it,” Kanye said, echoing his infamous BBC interview. “I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself, and I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention is always positive.”
Because Kanye wasn’t getting his inflated self-worth across properly, he then expanded:
When I compared myself to Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Howard Hughes, David Stern, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Jesus, whoever it is, I say these are my heroes, these are people that I look up to, this is the type of impact I want to make on the earth.
Things then got a little confrontational when Jimmy told Kanye, “A lot of people think you’re a jerk,” adding that Kanye brings a lot of the criticism and misunderstanding he deals with on himself.
Jimmy did give Kanye props for being honest, though, and Kanye said, “I’m totally weird and I’m totally honest and I’m totally inappropriate sometimes. You’re gonna love me or you’re gonna hate me, but I’m gonna be me.”
We think that pretty much sums it up.
Kanye West Rants About … Everything On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’
Kanye may have made up with Jimmy but that didn’t stop him from going on another long-winded rant in the second half of the show. Kayne seemed pretty upset about … well, just about everything — including racism, classism, his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, 32, not having a star on the Walk of Fame, and the fact that he can’t break into the fashion world because people don’t take him seriously since he’s a rapper.
Of course, he also voiced his frustration about the paparazzi harassing him and his family.
Kanye pointed out that he’s so much more than a celebrity, and he “should be respected as such” when he walks down the street.
He ended with a warning to the paparazzi he despises so much, saying, “It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second!”
We hear you loud and clear, Kanye! What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Does Kanye need to cool off or do you admire his moxy?
