Can you believe 200 episodes have passed since we were first introduced to Meredith Grey and her merry band of doctors? It’s been a wonderful ride, so let’s delve right into this week’s monumental episode!
Finally, our doctors were given a fancy event to them get out of those silly scrubs! The doctors were all decked out in elegant gowns and sexy tuxedos, and hit up the hospital’s fundraising gala on the Oct. 10 episode of Grey’s Anatomy; I feel like this show hasn’t had an event like this since that famous season two finale — and what an episode that was.
Incredible acrobats, a red carpet and flowing drinks welcomed the partygoers, though Jackson (Jesse Williams) wasn’t a fan of the whole spectacle. He wanted it to be a small, simple affair. This party was anything but that.
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), being the best person ever, stopped by to see Richard (James Pickens, Jr.) before the party. He was still being a stubborn child, and after he told Meredith off in the last episode, she was a total advocate of tough love. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) continued to baby Richard. (Hello, 9-1-1? It’s Avery, and she wants Nazi Bailey back!)
A Different Kind Of Donor
Back at the party, the doctors talked up potential donors to help get the hospital back on its feet. Callie (Sara Ramirez) began talking to an admirer, but as soon as Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) walked in, all eyes were on her. Too bad Callie lied about her wife passing away to get more money! That’s cold, Callie. Ice cold.
Cristina (Sandra Oh) also got her flirt on with a suave donor; she even looked like she was having fun. He was so impressed with her that he gave her a big fat check in what he hoped would lead into an official date. Wrong! Cristina was totally not interested and only in it for the money. Man, I love Cristina.
Owen (Kevin McKidd) was introduced to a sweet potential donor, and there was definitely a spark between the two. Even though I am an Owen/Cristina fan, Owen needs to move on since Sandra Oh is leaving. This girl needs to be good to match Cristina!
After weeks of maternity leave, Meredith and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) were ready to get back to work. So ready, in fact, that they were competing for donors at the party. Meredith was flirting and Derek even brought baby Bailey into the mix. I positively loved all their interactions. After 200 episodes, those two still have as much chemistry as ever!
Jackson made a speech only to have one of the performers fall! Thankfully, his assistant saved her from being killed — but wait, the dancer stood up and snapped a bone in her leg. It was so gross. My mouth is still gaping.
While on an errand for Jackson, April (Sarah Drew) found Arizona crying in the supply closet. Hasn’t Arizona suffered enough? In one of the best scenes of the night, April and Arizona got drunk together, and they were hilarious. At one point, April asked Arizona, “Can I try on your leg?” I’m still laughing so much it hurts.
Say Hello To Dear Ole…Dad?
While most of the doctors were at the party, the interns were taking control of the trauma room, especially Shane (Gaius Charles) and Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton). A few drunk men came into the OR after crashing into a tree and Alex seemed to know one the guys.
Turns out, one of the old drunks was his father! Alex took a paternity test and everything. He hadn’t seen him in 20 years and hoped it wasn’t him. Looks like someone has to deal with some daddy issues.
Meanwhile, Richard continued to be so, so stubborn. Bailey told him he was being pathetic. Bailey and Richard began to argue and then he pushed her! Oh no he didn’t. Bailey was done with him after that, and so am I. He was being just awful.
However, he started to cooperate after Bailey brought in another patient who was really dying. FINALLY!
Even with a new baby and a fancy party, Derek and Meredith couldn’t stay away from the hospital any longer. They just love to do what they do best, and that’s being doctors. Meredith and Derek have gone from dark and twisty to bright and shiny, yet they are always the most comfortable in the OR. Tonight’s episode was a celebration of 200 great episodes of television. The hospital is Grey’s Anatomy’s home. That is where the show started and that is where it will end. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Other Moments Worth Mentioning
1. Derek was better at charming the donors than Meredith. I mean, was that even a question? Derek even mentioned that famous Meredith and Derek scene from season two! Exam rooms and panties — it was such a throwback!
2. Shane and Stephanie kissed. I was hoping this would be the end of Stephanie and Jackson, but I was wrong. After a heart-to-heart with Jackson, they are as tight as ever.
3. The doctors found their way back to the OR and Jackson preached that “this is what we do here.” After that, the donations just kept piling in. I’m fist-pumping all the doctors tonight.
