If Kris follows her separation up with a divorce from Bruce, that would mean losing half of the fortune she’s worked so hard to amass, according to California’s laws! What would this mean for her?
If Kris Jenner and Bruce Jenner got a divorce, it would mean legal equality for both of them — so they would have to split Kris’ $125 million dollar fortune down the middle! Keep reading to find out what legal experts tell HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about Kris’ financial situation!
Kris Jenner & Bruce Jenner Would Have To Split $125 Million Fortune
Kris and Bruce might not have emotional animosity toward each other following their separation — but they might have financial animosity soon, since Kris’ fortune is about $125 million!
Because Kris and Bruce have been married for 22 years and didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement — what does that mean for them under California law?
“In a community property state, such as California, everything acquired during the marriage, when there is no prenup or postnup in place, is deemed to belong equally to each party, regardless of who earned it, when it was bought, or how long the marriage is. Therefore, any earnings and businesses of Kris Jenner are deemed to belong equally to Bruce Jenner. This is significant in terms of alimony. Since it’s presumed that she’s earning more than he is, she may be paying him significant alimony for the rest of his life. Her business will also be subject to equitable distribution, even if he didn’t contribute to it,” Silvana Raso, chair of family law practice at Schepisi & McLaughlin tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Even though they obviously would to keep their separation clean, for the sake of the show, at the very least — it could get seriously messy with a divorce! And would leave them both with almost $63 million — which is still not too shabby!
“If the show started during their marriage the proceeds and residuals are community and should be divided equally between the parties; however, if she is being paid more than he is to be a performer in the show, she is entitled to be paid more than he is paid,” family-based lawyer and divorce expert Douglas J. Bagby tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Yikes! Looks like Bruce should have maybe asked for a raise before he filed for separation, if Kris gets paid substantially more.
Looks like Kris has some tough choices to make!
Kris Jenner & Bruce Jenner’s Legal Separation — What Does It Mean?
So what is the legal process like for Kris and Bruce’s separation, and what does it mean for the two to be legally separated?
“An announcement is usually followed by some type of filing, which stops the clock running on the length of the marriage. Without that filing, in most states, the marriage is still considered to be intact, unless a separation agreement is signed. This means that unless the agreement is signed or a divorce is started, anything the parties continue to earn or acquire, even separately, may still be deemed marital property,” Silvana tells us.
Looks like that may be why Kris and Bruce decided to file for separation before season nine of KUWTK airs! Bruce, Kendall Jenner, 17, and Kylie Jenner, 16, were even spotted filming on Oct. 8 — the same day that Kris and Bruce announced their separation!
Only time will tell if Kris chooses to keep her fortune over getting a clean break from Bruce in divorce proceedings and losing half of $125 million!
