Lauryn, who was released from jail on Oct. 4, after serving a three month sentence for tax evasion, dropped her new single ‘Consumerism.’ HollywoodLifers, tell us what you think!
Lauryn Hill is out of jail and she wants everyone to know that she’s still not a big fan of the United States government. The Grammy winner makes that very clear in her new single “Consumerism” and raps about everything she hates about society.
Lauryn Hill Releases New Single ‘Consumerism’ From Jail
Lauryn dropped the single, along with a post on her Tumblr page. In the rant, she says that even though she hasn’t been able to watch the news too much from jail, she feels like this single will still be relevant and she definitely is right. With the current state of the United States government currently shut down, we’re sure several people will relate to Lauryn’s opinion.
Consumerism is part of some material I was trying to finish before I had to come in. We did our best to eek out a mix via verbal and emailed direction, thanks to the crew of surrogate ears on the other side. Letters From Exile is material written from a certain space, in a certain place. I felt the need to discuss the underlying socio-political, cultural paradigm as I saw it. I haven’t been able to watch the news too much recently, so I’m not hip on everything going on. But inspiration of this sort is a kind of news in and of itself, and often times contains an urgency that precedes what happens. I couldn’t imagine it not being relevant. Messages like these I imagine find their audience, or their audience finds them, like water seeking its level.
