So sad. A pregnant mom, expecting her second baby within weeks, was shot and killed in Tampa, FL on Oct. 2. One glimmer of happiness in her tragic story is that doctors were able to save her baby by quickly performing an emergency C-section.
Brianna Anderson, 22, was shot at least once on Oct. 2 by a man police believe to be her boyfriend. The young woman was also the mom to an adorable 3-year-old son, Tyler. She remained on life support in Tampa General Hospital for hours as doctors performed a cesarean section in attempts to save her second baby before she died around midnight. Her baby girl was able to be successfully delivered alive before she passed.
Pregnant Mom Shot, Baby Delivered Via C-Section Before She Died
Brianna was in her third trimester of pregnancy when her young life was tragically cut short. On her Facebook page, Brianna revealed in August that her baby was due “sometime in October.”
Police initially believed that Brianna had died immediately following the shooting, but she was able to be revived in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. “Doctors were able to deliver the baby by cesarean section. The child was in stable condition late Wednesday and is expected to survive,” according to police, reports The Tampa Bay Times.
Brianna was known as “an excellent resident and working mom” to an adorable 3-year-old son, Tyler, reports the paper. She posted a picture of her son on Facebook kissing her baby bump, saying he was “ready for his sister,” who she already decided to name Rylei.
Shooting Suspect In Custody
Police located the suspected shooter after a wide search effort and “brief pursuit,” reports The Tampa Bay Times. Police believe the suspect — unnamed due to pending charges — attacked Brianna inside an apartment.
“The detectives moved very quickly in their investigation and were able to take a very dangerous individual off the streets before he could hurt someone else,” said police spokeswoman Laura McElroy.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.
