Merritt took the stage on Sept. 22 at the 2013 Emmy Awards to accept the award for Best Supporting actress in a comedy series. Instead of giving some long speech where she thanked one million people, it was two seconds and I loved it!
Merritt Wever‘s Emmy’s speech is being dubbed as one of the best in history! The Nurse Jackie star took the stage on Sept. 22 and gave the saying “just a few words” a whole new meaning. The host of the night, Neil Patrick Harris, loved it and so did I, it was brilliant.
Merritt Wever’s Emmys Speech — Best Ever
Merritt didn’t have to wait for someone to cue the music to get her off stage, because in the blink of an eye she was gone. Although she was accepting a very important award right at the beginning of the show, she didn’t have too much to say and this is why everyone loved it, including me.
I’m so tired of everyone getting on stage and giving long-drawn-out speeches and thanking their mom, dad, goldfish, high school teacher and neighbors. When someone is accepting an award, whether it be an Emmy, Oscar, or Golden Globe, I don’t think one needs to give some intense speech. The shorter the better, everyone should keep it straight and to the point like Merritt.
Merritt said: “Thank you so very much. Um, I gotta go, bye.” She got the most important thing in there, a big thank you and that’s really all that is necessary. Even Neil loved it and said right after: “Merritt Wever, best speech ever.”
The Emmys was three hours long, and if everyone kept their speeches short and sweet like Merritt, we could shave off an entire hour.
I love Merritt’s Emmys attitude and I think all celebs should take a lesson from her.
