I think it would have made a little more sense if it ended with Dexter, his parents and sister finally being together again or the bearded lumberjack at the end turning out to be an adult Harrison struggling to live without a father to teach him the ‘code’ that Dexter’s father taught him.

An incredibly fantastic series (Dexter), final series episode was brilliant until the last five minutes when in true Hollywood fashion destroyed it by giving us a ridiculous and totally stupid last scenes much in the same way that the final “Soprano’s” episode blew it! Way to go Hollywood !!!!!

in my opinion, i think part of the ending was ok. like deb dying, cause it made dexter realize that in the end that he was selfish and it was because of him that everyone around him died. but in the end i think saxon should have kidnapped harrison, and took him to the shipyard container were dexters mom was killed, and lure dexter there. then saxon should have killed dexter in front of harrison, just like dexters mom was killed in front of him. then batistia should have killed saxon, then batistia should have taken harrison and raised him like harry did for dexter. then the spinoff could have something to do with harrison carring on dexters legacy.

I’ve watched from day one and think I “know” Dexter. I was not looking for a happy ending, just one that was deserving of the smart writing that was the first four seasons. Everything that lead to the finale of Dexter in its eighth season is about Showtime’s corporate greed. Under developed characters, story lines with inconclusive endings and the constant necessity to suspend disbelief. He walked out of a Hospital with a dead body without suspicion and survived steering his fishing boat into a hurricane. For an audience of I suppose average to high intelligence, fiction turned into fantasy all in one episode, the very last.

I don’t think anyone that is saying that they hated the finale and it was awful really know DEXTER. If you guys have watched the show from the beginning, and if you still hated the ending, there is something wrong. The show is about DEXTER murdering people, he didn’t deserve the happy ending we all wanted him to have. I loved the ending, did I cry, heck yes I cried, but everything that happened prior to the ending, lead to the series finale and it was great seeing Michael C Hall as DEXTER for all these years.

I talk to a lot of people about Dexter and frequent many message boards and I’ve heard nobody say that they wanted Dexter to have a happy ending. Everyone I know wanted him to die, including me, it was the only real way the series could have ended well. That being said, the finale was absolutely TERRIBLE. Worst series finale I’ve ever watched. It could have been more tolerable if he had actually died in the storm.

The finale was terrible, call it what it is. The show began to suffer in quality after season 4 and Showtime admitted to extending season seven into two, resulting in a season eight that was filled with story lines that went nowhere. They chose quantity over quality and left the possibility of a spin-off after a pitiful ending. Loyal fans suffered.

I liked the ending of Dexter – but it was a bit too “subtle”. The character tries to grow and we want him to, but he is pretty stuck. He wants to love others, but how he loves hurts the ones he professes to love. True growth would have had him “hang up” his kill tools in lieu of a “normal” life, but this was never entertained as an option. He wanted to have both. His self-interest kept him alive- he had to die in Miami after all that had happened (the death of oliver and what elway knew). He will kill again, but he won’t have any attachments to worry about. The character leaves the story (and us, the audience) much as he entered our lives – a loner and a killer. He was never able to give up killing others, and the ending tells us that he came to some resolution about that.

I really didn’t like it, but it would be nice to see Dexter in some sort of spin off.

the death of Deb is a big mistake. She bring spices and “joy” She had to be there again when Dexter will be back!!! Find a way writers!!
