A young Tuscaloosa, Alabama woman is wanted by police after she abandoned her newborn baby boy in her hospital room just hours after giving birth. The mom and baby both tested positive for drugs before the mom escaped.
A young mom was caught on an Alabama hospital’s security camera leaving the hospital just eight hours after giving birth to her baby on Sept. 19. She ducked out of her room carrying a bag of clothes, abandoning her newborn child.
Baby Abandoned In Alabama Hospital — Mom Leaves 8 Hours After Birth
The woman was admitted to DCH Regional Medical Center in Alabama at 3:00am. She reportedly attempted to have the baby in her hotel room, according to The Daily Mail. She used an alias and fake Social Security Number to check into the hospital, but said that she was 22 years old and from Georgia.
She gave birth to her son later that morning, but left the hospital when she was left unattended, just eight hours after the birth.
In a sad development, both the new mom and her infant son tested positive for cocaine and opiates, said The Daily Mail.
Abandoned Baby Remains In Hospital As Authorities Search For Mother
The baby boy is being taken care of by the hospital and Alabama Department of Human Resources will take on custody when he is able to be released. Authorities are concerned for the mother’s health and safety:
“We’re concerned about her as well,” Tuscaloosa Police Sgt. Michael Chaisson told Tuscaloosa News. “We want to talk to her and make sure that she’s OK.”
