So horrific! A newborn died at the Alicante-Elche Airport in Spain after his mother placed him down on the baggage claim carousel.

Airport Accident — 5-Month-Old Infant Dies On Spanish Airport Conveyor Belt
The boy’s mother, believed to be an American citizen, set him down for just an instant when the unthinkable happened.
“She placed the child inside a baby carrier on a stropped heavy baggage collection belt – which was activated by the weight, setting it in motion – and watched on in horror as he was whisked off,” reports The Mirror.
“The infant traveled to the entrance of the bag drop portal where luggage emerges and somehow became tangled up and trapped,” reports The Daily Mail
Paramedics rushed to try to save the infants’s life, but he was swept away in moments. The boy was declared dead at the scene.
The mother was reportedly traveling to London with another small child.
Airport Officials Calling Incident An Accident
A Guardia Civil spokesman said: “We are still in the early stages of the investigation and looking at CCTV footage, but it seems that it was an accident. The mother left the baby on the conveyor belt, which can be activated by detecting weight or by an airport employee.”
So sad! Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
