So scary. On Sept. 16, two gunmen opened fire inside a Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., reportedly shooting and killing twelve people. One shooter has reportedly been killed, while police seek to apprehend potential other suspects.

Up to three gunmen have caused a Washington Navy Yard — the Navy’s largest command base that employs about 3,000 people — to lock down after opening fire and reportedly killing twelve people, and injuring several other. Meanwhile, the rest of the building’s employees are seeking shelter as police try to control the situation.

Washington Navy Yard Shooting

The first shots rang out at around 8:20 a.m. inside the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command in southeast Washington D.C., according to CNN. The Navy first broke the news of the shooting on their Twitter, tweeting, “#USNavy confirms active shooter at Washington Navy Yard. More to follow.”

Washington D.C.’s mayor confirmed that twelve people have been killed in the shooting, and others have been critically injured. Two of the victims are reportedly policemen.

The Navy reportedly confirmed to CNN that two, possibly three, shooters were responsible for the attack, and that the suspects are “down.” One of the suspects has been killed, according to the Associated Press. The slain gunman was identified as Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old military contractor from from Texas, according to the FBI.

So far no motive for these violent, shocking actions has been released.

Emergency personnel, the FBI, U.S. Capitol Police, and local D.C. police have all responded to the scene, according to the Washington Post. A “shelter in place” order has been issued for all of the Navy Yard’s employees. Though while most are taking cover, some people have been evacuated.

The FAA has also suspended all flights at National Airport in D.C. because of the shooting.

This is obviously an ongoing situation, as authorities work to apprehend the shooters and end the dangerous threat. Hopefully, the situation can be handled safely, without anyone else suffering injuries. Stay tuned to HollywoodLife.com for updates.
