At the VPL Spring Summer 2014 show, neons ruled! The eyes were bold and the hair was braided at the sporty show, held in a gym at The World School in New York City. Check out our interviews with the hair and makeup artists below!

Think your job is stressful? Nail artist Deborah Lippman was told on the morning of September 6, the day of the VPL fashion show, that the nail color had to be changed! Find out how she created a custom shade in time for the show and how to get the exact fishtail braids seen on the models below!

VPL Runway — Fresh-Faced Makeup

Romy Soleimani created the looks using Boots No7 line, available at Beauty.com. Backstage at the show, she told HollywoodLife.com:

Boots No7 is the number one brand in the UK —  the foundations are incredible. It goes on beautifully and not cakey. We’re mixing gloss and yellow eye shadow to make a glossy, graphic shape on the eye. It’s a pop of color. The skin is bare — it’s not a complicated look — no eyeliner or mascara. The show is in a gym so it will be cool to see a flash of yellow!

Here are the exact products used:

Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Foundation

Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Serum

Boots No7 Radiant Glow Concealer

Boots No7 Natural Blush Cream

Boots No7 Beautiful Brows Pencil

Boots No7 Stay Perfect Eye Shadow Trio in Golden

Nails — Color Changed At The Last Minute

Lead artist Deborah Lippmann spoke to HollywoodLife.com backstage about the massive color change done just hours before the show!

We played with several reds and I got a call this morning saying “change it!” I literally ran back to my office to make it. That’s what fashion week is all about! I made it with 3 parts Amazing Grace and 1 part Waking Up In Vegas and mixed it into a soft white with a hint of gray. I would call it “Dirty Little Secret.” It’s an ecru — super neutral with any skin tone and anything that you are wearing. Normally I add black to every color but I didn’t add black to this.

We are doing vibrant blue on toes. Pantone just called this the color of the year for next year so we are ahead of the trend!

Indeed, Dazzling Blue was one of the color Pantone named in it’s Fashion Color Report for Spring 2014.

Hair At VPL — Fun, Fishtail Braids

The amazing fishtail braids were created by Bob Recine for Beauty.com. He used PHYTO products and T3 tools on the model’s hair. He says:

We are following the geometric clothes, creating a beautiful, fishtail braid. It’s geometrically correct. We added lots of moose to dry hair to give hair the wet and shiny look. The hair respects the natural beauty in the front — it’s touchable and approachable.

Here’s how to get the exact look:

A clean, wet, natural active look that is representative of the science in beauty and the contrast of wet vs. dry.

Blow dry hair using T3Featherweight Luxe 2i while applying PHYTO PROFESSIONAL Intense Volume Mousse at the roots to create texture

Flat iron hair with the T3 Single Pass, Straightening & Styling Iron to create a sleek look

Pull hair back into a ponytail, securing with an elastic

Apply PHYTO PROFESSIONAL Wet Gel  to the ponytail to create a sleek, wet  texture before braiding the hair inside of the ponytail into a fishtail braid

Apply PHYTO 7 Hydrating day cream to tame flyaways, while keeping fine hair around the face dry and wispy

Finish with PHYTO Phytolaque Soie Hair Spray and PHYTO PLAGE Protective Beach Spray for protection and hold

Are you loving this look, HollywoodLifers?

As someone with long hair, I love the braid! But I do not think it would be possible for me to recreate it on my own. I would need help.
