There’s always outrage the morning after an America’s Got Talent elimination episode — I mean, who wants to see their favorite act get the boot, right? — but never this season have I seen so many disappointed viewers as I’m seeing today, following the ousting of fan-favorite Innovative Force.
When the acrobatic dance group was called up alongside Cami Bradley on the Sept. 11 episode, my heart sank. Both are considered fan-favorites at this point in the competition, and I didn’t want to see either of them go. Unfortunately, the judges announced that America — thanks a lot, by the way, America — decided to keep Cami in the competition for another week.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like Cami. I think she’s managed to put her own unique spin on some well-known songs — I especially enjoyed her stripped-down version of Cher‘s “Believe” — but did she really deserve to move forward past Innovative Force?
I think not.
I know America voted for Cami to move forward, so really, this rant is being addressed to the voters: What were you thinking?
Let’s take a step back and consider what’s at stake in this competition. Along with banking $1 million, the winner of America’s Got Talent gets to headline its own show in Las Vegas; and as talented as Cami is, do you really think her performances will meet the larger-than-life expectations tourists have when they go to see Vegas shows?
There are definitely Vegas-worthy singers in the competition — I’m looking at you, Forte — but in my humble opinion, I just don’t think Cami is one of them. She’s incredibly talented, and I think she’ll continue to do well in this competition, but I feel her brand of talent is more suited for a show like The Voice or The X Factor.
Innovative Force, an inspiring — not to mention mesmerizing — crew of 26 girls, absolutely represents what Vegas is all about. Their personalities and their performances have all been larger-than-life, inducing “oohs” and “aahs” with each new, mind-blowing routine. I know that sounds simple, but that sort of thing has a proven track record in Vegas.
We’ve been huge supporters of Innovative Force throughout this competition, and we only hope the girls continue doing what they do best — entertaining the world, and loving every minute of it — and that we will soon see them again.
