Anna Sui‘s Spring 2014 collection brought the West coast to the East coast, setting the laid-back tone with a funky purple, orange and blue-hued backdrop of a lake with mountains and flowers. The always-eclectic designer wowed the audience with fringed vests over crop tops, linen shift dresses, tunics and crocheted cardigans — and we know more than a few celebrities who would look fabulous in her looks!
Models glided down the runway to folk-y, fun music, bringing in a cool Californian vibe. Pale and warm colors and patterns perfect for spring and summer showed up on glittering lace and chiffon dresses, tunics and tops, paired with crocheted and fringed vests, cardigans and shorts. The collection was dreamily accessorized with an assortment of cat-eye sunglasses, tall and short gladiator sandals and dainty flower wreaths and chains in the models’ crimped and wavy hair.
Menswear was shown too, offering velvet and suede cropped shorts, loose graphic shirts and suede jackets.
Some of Anna’s looks also had bold, contrasting patterns accompanied with chunky, tribal necklaces. I felt like I was in a fashionable forest in California watching hippie fairies saunter down the runway — including supermodels Karen Elson and Karlie Kloss — loved it! Director and longtime Anna Sui fan Sofia Coppola was in the front row, and was overheard saying the collection was “truly beautiful.” We think so too!
One of my favorite dresses was a short gold lace dress with detailed appliques and embroidery that hung beautifully — if Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby was a hippie in California in the 1920’s, this is the exact dress she would wear. Since Daisy is a fictitious character, we can definitely picture the mod and hippie style-loving Nicole Richie rocking this look!
A funky and bold mesh and jacquard criss-cross top paired with floral print voile pants is perfect for edgy Vanessa Hudgens, who would look stunning in this look!
