The theme for Zang Toi’s runway show was ‘Ballet Babe,’ and what a show it was! From a grand and dramatic opening featuring a ballet dancer twirling down the catwalk, to ethereal and wintry pantsuits and gowns that lead to a standing ovation, this show truly pirouetted right off the runway!
Zang Toi‘s Spring 2014 collection debut on Sept. 9 during New York Fashion Week was elegant, creative and beautiful from start to finish. The designer created an exquisite ballet theme, where women’s and men’s looks ranged from delicate cashmere pantsuits for fall and winter to red-carpet gowns in chilling spring blues and inky blacks. Short skirts with knee-high looks and billowing tulle ruffles made us feel like we were witnessing a romantic ballet, set against delicate, choir-like music. If these looks inspired us this much now, just wait until they make their way onto red carpets!
Zang Toi Spring 2014 Collection:
American Ballet Theatre‘s Principal Dancer Cory Stearns opened the show, making the audience gasp with a brief but beautiful ballet, setting the theme of mixing classical ballet and fashion. With hair pulled back in wavy ballerina buns, models then showed off Zang’s delicate silhouettes and embroidery that he’s well-known for. He showed fall coats for men, and wintry daytime cashmere and silk dresses and suits for women — some accessorized with scarves! His full-skirted gowns seemed to float on their own, with delicate ruffles and trains trailing in the back. The pale blue hues on organzas and tulles offset the heaviness of black and navy silks, complementing each other beautifully — there were even a few ballet slipper-pink shades woven in to the collection!
We can totally see the statuesque and fashion risk-taking Heidi Klum stunning crowds with the striking silk blue gown with a gorgeous platinum-sequined draped back and an elaborate updo. We also love the black sequined strapless gown that has sexy and playful blue tulle ruffles peeking out at the bottom for Beyonce with a long, wavy hairdo — her amazing curves would complement the gown so well, and the fun bottom would show off the fashionista in her!
The front row was also full of upbeat and fun personalities, such as Miss USA 2012 Nana Meriwether, Miss USA 2013 Erin Brady, Real Housewives of NYC cast members Ramona Singer, Sonja Morgan and LuAnn de Lesseps and Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member Kathy Wakile.
Zang got a wildly enthusiastic standing ovation at the end of his exceptionally gorgeous show — so well-deserved! We absolutely loved the collection — what about YOU, HollywoodLifers? Let us know what you think of the collection!
