The king of ’90s late night returned Sept. 9 to a warm welcome from critics, fans, and of course, the Dog Pound. WOOF!

It’s always risky stepping back into the game — especially when you’ve been out of it for almost 20 years — but it would appear Arsenio Hall hasn’t forgotten any of the rules. The Arsenio Hall Show returned Sept. 9, and while some Twitter users were quick with the snark, true critics are hailing the late-night icon’s triumphant return.

It seems that, rather than attempt to bring himself into 2013, Arsenio brought 2013 back to him — and it totally worked! Though one reviewer noted that the host was a little rusty after nearly two decades, most heralded it as “a walk down memory lane,” one that would likely be considered a “success.”

Variety

The Arsenio Hall Show, inevitably and perhaps shrewdly, looks like a carbon copy of the syndicated show Hall left in 1994. And if you think about it, why not? In today’s fragmented TV universe, a series with a fraction of the audience Hall delivered in his heyday will likely be heralded as a success.

New York Daily News

Less-than-hilarious jokes aside, the resurrected talk show debuted in a far different world than the one it left in 1994. … It wasnt as tight an hour of late-night entertainment as it could have been, but even the smoothest running machine can get a little rusty after two decades.

Zap2it

The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems. The set of the show isn’t all that different from the first time around. Arsenio still talks to guests from a big, comfortable-looking chair, while they sit on a couch. … A lot of the episode was a nice trip down memory lane to a show that broke down a lot of barriers in its time.

Arsenio Hall – after nearly 20 years – is back with an all new talk show. Yes, you read that correct. After what is probably (definitely?) one of the longest talk show hiatuses in history, he’s back and after watching a few clips it’s as if he never left.

Handa down the most racist show on television today… If a white person made that same jokes but inverted the color, he/she would be the biggest racist/bigot in television!

In addition, I’m really enjoying seeing a Black Talk Show Host for a change We certainly have more than enough of the majority race on Television. I think we should give him a legitimate chance to find his comfortable balance. .The others had to find their way as well.

I’m a bit uncomfortable sometimes with some remarks made regarding Caucasian people, but I watch every night, and I’ve heard him cadt aspersions toward the Black community as well. To me, he desls with hot topic matters of all races. This makes him non-discrimitory.

I watched the show back then every night before bed, to put me to sleep. Then he showed major favorism toward african american. To my surprise I witnessed each night, the ongoing obvious hate grow towards caucasion americans. He was so rude. Basically he woukd invite some crappy artist and then a some siper talented african american talent…over and over… heckling the Caucasians. He is grimacing his face so bad to be nice to Caucasians. He must he so desperate that he fakes his everythingA

I loved watching the arsenio show back in the 90’s but I really dislike the show this time around. I was happy when I heard he was coming back but it all vanished when I saw couple of episodes… I, like many others think that the show is boring but my biggest problem is how racist the show is…yes we know he is black and that 98% of all his guests are black, they don’t need to remind us every 5 minutes with the constant black comments… it’s all about my brotha and my sista but only I’d you’re black.. the native americans believe we are all brothers and sisters not just the black population, there’s many other people that make up the world. I think doing this is very ignorant you don’t hear jay leno saying hey I’m white and here are my white guests.. I think that when this show goes down in flames it will be because people got tired of the discriminatory vibe of the show.

I totally agree, everytime I tune in to see what Arsenio is saying he is slamming some white person or raving how happy he is that there
are so many more blacks in the acting arena today, I wonder how his mentor, Donald Trump would feel avout his remarks and I have not seen Mr Trump on the show as yet. I do not see color, I see acting ability, It seems Arsenio sees only color and sounds anti white, I he his show does not remain on due to his racism, Tyler Perry was onlast night and he did. Not feed into Arsenio’s stance, Tyler was very humble and gave props to God and hard work for what he has today.
