Custo Barcelona’s Spring 2014 collection exuded a chic contemporarily colorful vibe on Sept. 8 at The Studio in Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week. With a total of 63 looks sauntering down the runway, he was sure to please!
Inspired by his own cultural identity, Custo Barcelona brought out bold structured overcoats that mixed in fringe, tribal prints and metallic sheen. Dresses, swimsuits and sheer chiffon overlays along-side mini shorts and intimates carried with them the bold brilliance we’ve come to love.

“In this collection we bet on bringing our identity to the level of sophistication and refinement—fusion of colors and materials but very refined,” Custo told us backstage.
And sophisticated it was, with an eye-popping variety of colors. However, much of his menswear was a bit more casual, sporting loose knits and sneakers. There were some striking prints and fabrics in a few of his board-short styles and men’s tops.
It was the womenswear that wowed us the most. Each piece had its own voice and something to say. A particular favorite was a lime green overcoat and coral number with a deep brown V that opened to reveal a mix of patterns.
Erin Brady, the reigning Miss USA, and Cassidy Wolf, Miss Teen USA, were both in attendance as well, raving about Custo’s designs. “I think they’re just very exotic, they really incorporate patterns [and] prints,” Miss USA told us just before the show. “It’s a really great mix of a lot of different things.”
