‘Dexter': How Will The Series End?

With just three episodes remaining in the entire series, ‘Dexter’ is racing towards its finish line. But deep into the eighth season, it still looks like the show could end in a variety of ways. Will our favorite serial killer be caught? Killed? Will he get away with everything he’s done over the past eight seasons?

Dexter, and the serial killer by the same name, had Labor Day Weekend off. Which is great, because it allowed to us catch our breath but also start spinning our wheels trying to figure out how the show will end. With just three Dexter episodes left, here are five theories, from least crazy to that-could-never-happen insane.

‘Dexter': 5 Theories On The Series’ End

5. Dexter Gets Caught By Quinn Or Elway

Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington) has always been suspicious of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a low-level Doakes if you will. He’s bound to cross paths with Dex as he continues to parse out Zach Hamilton’s (Sam Underwood) true identity while also tracking down the Brain Surgeon Daniel Vogel (Darri Ingolfsson). Meanwhile, Elway (Sean Patrick Flannery) is hunting down Dexter’s soulmate Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovsky) like a rabid dog. If her life is being threatened, will Dexter sacrifice himself to save her?

4. Debra Turns Dexter In

This whole season has been a psychological battle for Debra (Jennifer Carpenter). She’s gone from (almost literally) killing herself for helping Dexter, to becoming complicit to Dex’s deeds, to once again questioning if that is the right choice. She has always chosen family first, but if Dexter continues to put her life and morality on the line, will that be enough to get her to finally change?

3. The Vogels Take Out Dexter

Dr. Evelyn Vogel (Charlotte Rampling) has been Team Dexter all season, but now that her psychotic fratricide son has returned, she has a new serial killer to adore. And Dexter just happens to want to murder him. Will there be an epic showdown that Dexter eventually loses? You have to admit — there would be something poignant about Dexter getting destroyed by the woman who created him in the first place.

2. Hannah McKay Is A Police Informant

Dexter previously ratted on Hannah — what goes around comes around? She’s been playing the “true love” card lately (and it’s been working to perfection on Dexter), but you can never trust a woman who poisons your morning cup of coffee. She will always keep her interests her main priority. So maybe police caught her after she escaped from prison and she realized the only way to stay free was to give them the one thing they want more — the real Bay Harbor Butcher.

1. Dexter & His Family Ride Off Into The Sunset

Unfortunately, this theory isn’t as crazy as I’d like it to be. Dexter and Hannah have started talking about migrating to Argentina and living like a normal family so much, we can no longer ignore it as a possibility. After all, think about all of the crazy things Dexter has gotten away with so far — is it that absurd to suggest he might escape scot-free? The idea that Dexter will overcome his urges to kill is nice and all but come on, doesn’t he need to pay for everything he’s done?

So HollywoodLifers, how do YOU think Dexter will end? Let us know!

Personally, and I have thought this for a few years now, but Dexter is killed by Deb. I can’t explain how, but if you think about it, most murders do occur when the vic knows their killer.

I think Dexter will be caught. He will die strapped down with Lethal injection being admistered. With his dad by his side, reminding him that he always knew it would end this way. We are then made to watch through Dexter’s eyes as they slowly close….. End credits.

Theory 3 is blown out becaue Vogul was just killed by her son in the last few minutes of the show.
I think it will be that he kills himself in the end.

Dexter is a hero, a person whom sees evil as it is, the code just keeps him focused, I wish there were more of him to go around…

Yes there is supposedly a leak about how the show ends, but the leak could be a red herring that was planted purposely to add intrigue and bring more of a surprise when it does end. Personally I think it should end with Debra discovering she has a split personality – one of whom is a serial killer similiar to Dexter and this personality should kill Dexter on his own kill table (because Dexter has killed innocents) and the final words of the entire series should be uttered by Debra “I am Dexter” The end.

That’s ridiculous. Nothing in the entire show has pointed towards Debra having a split personality, nor have there been any mysterious, unsolved murders that could be attributed to her. Why suddenly would she decide to kill her brother, when she saved him after attempting suicide herself? What about her seems so psychopathic that she’d feel comfortable carrying on a legacy of murder and violence…? After all, she can hardly handle what she did to LaGuerta.

I think Dexter has always been in the Brain Surgeons chair since series 1 episode 1 and what we have seen are his memories. It will zoom in on Dexter just before Saxon kills him.

Nooooooooooo! But I did read somewhere else that the key to the ending is in Season 1, Episode 1.

The ultimate would be Hannah killing Debra and Dexter in a rage killing Hannah and his son witnessing the whole thing. New Dexter in the making?

Racing towards the finish line? Hardly. If Breaking Bad is a runaway bullet train coming to the end of it’s run, Dexter is more like a rudderless boat floating randomly in the middle of a vast, empty ocean. As a fan since Day One, this is quite a disappointing end.

Kim Who?

Maybe the brain surgeon is Vogel and she offs Dexter or Dexter offs Dexter with Hanna gone. Or the real far out theory is Harrison does Dexter.

for a few seasons now, Dexter has fallen short for me. I’ve been looking forward to the moment everyone finds out who he really is. And I mean all his co-workers. I felt cheated when Rita died without knowing, and then thought “hey. Maybe they’ll have her in the next season like a second Harry, only she would act as disgusted with Dexter as he always knew she would if she found out..” but that didn’t happen. Now if we end the show without those human reactions about who he is then it’s going to be a let down. Take a leaf out of Breaking Bad and please give us a pay off!!!

I vote that he gets caught and put to death. But when we’re 9 eps in and no one seems remotely close to suspecting anything, then it’s either not going to happen, or it’s going to be extremely rushed.

I really hope they bring Deb back into the fold, so #4 would be a good idea. I wish this had happened earlier in the season, though, as so far, the stakes have been nonexistent. Deb should be in the thick of everything. The writers are going to have to really impress me if they want to salvage any goodwill they have left.
