Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones Separate — Taking A Break From Relationship
Their rep confirmed a report by People to Us Weekly, “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”
Michael, 68, and Catherine, 43, haven’t been photographed together since April 22, the magazine notes. The actors have both walked red carpets solo, vacationed separately with their kids, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, and most recently, Michael has been vacationing off the coast of Sardinia while Catherine’s at home in New York.
It’s no secret that Michael and Catherine have endured many hardships over the past three years of their relationship — his battle with throat cancer in 2010 and her ongoing struggles with bipolar II disorder.
Michael’s eldest son, Cameron, was also sentenced to a five-year prison term on drug charges in April 2010.
“The stress has taken a toll on their marriage,” a friend tells People.
Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones Want The Best For Their Children
The duo decided to take some time apart following Michael’s return from Cannes in May. And despite their relationship woes, Michael and Catherine aren’t forgetting that they have two beautiful children together. “They want the best for their kids, no matter what happens,” a family friend tells the magazine.
Michael and Catherine exchanged “I dos” in a star-studded ceremony at Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel in 2000.
