Justin is on his way to top all solo performers. Performing is his strength. He is STRONG. Gets better and better. Justin deserves everything he gets. It was the same with MJ with people always picking and prodding what he deserves or putting his success against his own success because nobody could win against him. *sigh*

JT music is getting worse and worse he has no talent of his own his last two albums were just fads and 20/20 experience part 1 & 2 will also just be fads. jt will be nothing more than an overrated overhyped pop artist. he was lip syncing at the vma’s.

IMO Justin Timberlake is incredibly talented but plays down his immitations of Prince and Michael Jackson too much. He prefers people believe that he’s done this all himself when he has really copied those two guys across his whole career. His latest song sounds like it would fit on Michael Jackson’s ‘Off The Wall’ album and JT even copies some of MJ’s ‘adlibs’ from ‘The Jacksons’ song ‘Shake Your Body’.
A couple of JT’s vids have been incredible, but none were particularly innovative. Rock You Body was iconic but that does not mean he deserves the MJ Video Vanguard Award. This is just all part of his latest promo campaign. Nothing more.

And just so you know: When Madonna received the Vanguard…Michael Jackson felt she didn’t deserve it! He was like “this makes my name look bad” because they named it The Michael Jackson Vanguard that same year. Opinion is just that…opinion!

If Michael Jackson got on some Marionette Strings dancing in his video (if he was alive now) everyone would know where he got that idea from! Stop hating! It’s time to see the reality boo. haha

None of his videos were innovative to deserve such a prestigious award. Madonna yes, Peter Gabrielle yes. JT has done what many white performers have done since Elvis stole from people of color. Understand history as it constantly repeats itself. Everyone including Michael copied James Brown, Little Richard and Jackie Wilson. However, Michael changed how music videos were done. These were mini films that told a story and his dancing ability and style took it to the next level. If MTV is giving out these awards for imitators and not innovators than Usher deserved the award as well. He has been singing around the same time as JT and can sing and dance rings around him. Calling him the president of pop is a joke and a farce. It is more like smoke and mirrors. MJ was the first black artist to be shown on MTV. I guess some things never change.

Brian: Michael Jackson’s vids are iconic. JT’s are not. Give me an example of an iconic vid scene, an outfit, a dance move. Bc I can give you those examples for King Michael Jackson, Queen Madonna, for Janet Jackson, and even for Britney Spears(her pigtails and catholic school uniform w the short tied up; her nude bodysuit for Toxic; her skintight leather red bodysuit, etc)

MTV wanted viewers so they had justin perform and has nsync reunite.
JT is a talent but he wasnt yet worthy of LIFETIME MUSIC VIDEO AWARD. He even said so. “suit and tie” sucks.

If we are talking about total body of work then yes, but the award is for video vanguard award so his videos should be what was judged. I don’t recall being wowed by his videos as a solo artist or any of them being particularly iconic (excluding maybe Cry me A River). I can see why he said he didn’t deserve ths award, he deserved AN award because of his music but not one based of quality or originality of videos.

Of course he deserves it. He deserved it the minute he was born, haha. But seriously. I’ve yet to see a musician/artist connect and reach to soo many different genres. Things about Justin, is that he’s honest, humble, and to say the least talented. Beyond talented compared to most artists these days that leave you wondering “how did THEY get a record deal?” He can sing. He can dance. He can touch your soul musically. And he’s not done yet. He took off time to do him. He came back, and did his thing. And did it very well. He could have put out numerous albums, and they would have done well, because it seems, soo many like him, that they would have bought it, just because its Justin Timberlake. His fans are loyal. But not only because we love anything and everything he does. Only because what he does is quality. This is only the beginning. Just wait. It’s going to get better. And I cant wait!!!

Ali, please read Michele’s comment. JT is deserving of an award but NOT the VIDEO LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT award. His videos have not been super creative, eye cathcing, memorable, dynamic. He is not in league of King Michael, Queen Madonna,Janet Jackson, or even Britney spears.

please ali i get it your a fan. but he lip synced at the vma. his music is garbage without pharrell and timbaland his solo career would have failed. all his so-called talent he stole from michael jackson and prince. his voice is terrible and too high pitch. it hard to believe he ever got a record deal but everything these days are about looks and not talent. so that why these other artist you don’t like have made it even if you can’t see how they got a record deal because like JT it’s not about talent it’s just about sex appeal.

Oh hell! lest be real justin T. has had songs that have been worth of given credit. He’s not though in the leuige of MJ, Md, or have had iconic videos of originality in videos like Brittney(Toxic) or Beyonce(single Ladies). JT worthy defantly of an award but not a MJ honoring lets get real people and MTV. POINT BLAKE PERIOD END OF DEBATE.!
