Simply saying you’re the best and dropping n-bombs makes you a great rapper? What happened to inventive rhymes, ballsy concepts, creative imagery and clever wordplay?

He’s not dissing anyone. He’s clearly saying he’s going to be better than them someday. He saying he’s gonna step his game up and take over. Nothing’s wrong with dreaming to be better than the best. It’s been thought many times by many people. A lot of people want to be the best at something.

Three faced entertainment and media industries! Sack of sh _ t! Why n______a? If an ordinary American uses this word, the press and those seeking a pound of flesh for the offense are on that person like wolves on the kill. But here it is used over and over and the press and NAACP? NOT A WORD!!! Three faced bigoted liars all!!!! You don’t get to say “oh it’s just creative art” to cover for how wrong it is! Only a fool takes this excuse. TRUTH!!!

50 cent did the same thing…kendrick is trying to sell records…oldest gimmick in hiphop..if he nice then he doesn’t need to mention anyone else…just drop his records and let his music speak for itself…but we all got to eat right

Kendrick isn’t using this verse to sell a record, being that he does not have an album coming out. He may be doing it for attention, but he is also creating competition and forcing the hand of his hip-hop peers. This may be the beginning of something good.

Couldn’t agree with you more @Chris Heminway. Most of the ppl who think this is a diss were probly born in the 90’s or not familiar with old school hip hop. Kendrick was just stirring the pot. That verse is gonna “raise the bar” and change the game. A lot of ppl are gonna respond & try to spit fire with there rhymes. The game has missed this kind of competition.

Respectful competition, and blatant boastfulness is part of the very essence of Hip-Hop, more so than other genres. So I don’t believe it’s for sales, or publicity. I simply believe he was “hype” during the recording process, and felt the need to voice his confidence, something ALL the greats did. I’d rather this than the “everybody’s my friend”, and “there’s no need for competition, there’s room for all of us” mentality that has plagued Hip-Hop since what, 2004?!?! This ain’t country, nor is it pop!

First of all Kendrick’s verse wasn’t a diss. I was him simply saying he’s stepping his games up. It’s more of a warning to the other rappers that they should do the same. Maybe you guys should actually try listening to his lyrics instead if just the names he calls out.

Kendrick is just raising the bar for everyone. He didn’t throw slugs for no reason he stated that he wants to be remembered as the best of the best and only way to do it is crush competition!

Because you don’t need clearance on samples on mixtapes. They are not officially getting “paid” royalties from the song so they can be use.

If you can’t include the song on the album because of the sample why can you put it on mixtapes? He gave an interview saying the same thing on Howard Stern but I didnt understand why one and not the other.

Mixtapes are free they can use almost any sample on a mixtape because you wont be profiting off it, unlike an album.

It’s whatever man, I don’t care about a lot of rappers on that list, like Drake, J Cole, Tyler, Mac Miller and Wale, but I’m choosing Pusha T and Jay Electronica over Kendrick any day. Kendrick isn’t even the best out of TDE. I hope King Push buries him in bars
