The ‘Late Night’ funny man took a more serious tone on August 13 when he openly discussed his wife Nancy’s fertility struggles. It turns out the couple was struggling to get pregnant for 5 years — but the wait proved worth it when their little girl Winnie arrived last month. Her arrival was a real ‘win’ for the family!
Jimmy Fallon has been sharing more personal details about his wife Nancy Juvonen‘s fertility struggles after the pair welcomed adorable daughter Winnie Rose Fallon on July 23 via surrogate. In a new interview, Jimmy revealed that he and his wife tried every avenue to try to conceive before being blessed with their little one. He also reveals the meaningful reasons behind her unique name!
Jimmy Fallon: Wife Had ‘Awful’ Five-Year Fertility Struggle
We were all surprised when Jimmy announced that he and his wife welcomed their baby girl via surrogate — because the pair had not previously opened up about any fertility struggles. In an August 13 interview with the Today show, Jimmy explained that it was intentional omission:
We’ve tried a bunch of things. Anyone who’s tried will know, it’s just awful. We tried before, we told people and then it didn’t happen. And it’s just really depressing. It’s really hard on everybody.
It’s completely understandable that Jimmy would not want to get anyone’s hopes up about a baby only to be let down by complications — but we’re so glad that he’s sharing his and Nancy’s story to inspire others. He added:
I know people have tried much longer [than we have], but if there’s anyone out there who is trying and they’re just losing hope … just hang in there. Try every avenue; try anything you can do, ’cause you’ll get there. You’ll end up with a family, and it’s so worth it. It is the most ‘worth it’ thing. I’m just so happy right now, I’m freaking out.
The new dad’s excitement is just so adorable — and his story is definitely hopeful!
Jimmy Fallon Explains His Daughter Winnie Rose’s Name
Jimmy also explained the meaning behind his little girl’s name, addressing all the references that make up her thoughtful monicker on the Today show:
It’s not Winnie-the-Pooh at all … though I do love Winnie-the-Pooh. My wife and I got engaged in New Hampshire at this lake house that her family’s had forever, and it’s on Lake Winnipesaukee. And so we went there every summer as we were dating. … Winnie from ‘The Wonder Years’ is the coolest girl in any TV show ever. And also, she’s a ‘win’ for us.
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Are you glad that Jimmy’s sharing his family’s story? Do you think the meaning behind Winnie’s name is totally adorable? Sound off below!
