Plane Crashes Into Home In East Haven, CT — Pilot, Kids Missing

A small turboprop plane crashed into a residential home in Connecticut. A major fire following the crash destroyed the house and spread to the neighboring home, says East Haven Fire Chief Douglas Jackson.

“We presume there’s going to be a very bad outcome for two people believed in the house” and for the pilot at least, the fire chief said. At 4:19 p.m., NBC Connecticut reported that both the 1-year-old and pilot had died as a result of the crash.

The destroyed house is a harrowing sight. “It’s … total devastation in the back of the home,” said the East Haven Mayor, regarding the scene.

The homeowner and children’s mother survived this tragedy and is getting consolation from her family and priest.

Connecticut Plane Crash — Causes Yet Unknown

The home is located near the Tweed New Haven Airport, and was following standard procedure before the yet unexplainable crash.  Tweed’s airport manager, Lori Hoffman-Soares, said that the pilot had been in standard communication with air traffic control did not issue any distress calls.

“All we know is that it missed the approach and continued on. There were no distress calls as far as we know,” she said.

A neighbor of the home told the CT Post that the crash was relatively quiet considering the magnitude, just a loud thump but “no engine noise, nothing.” The neighbor explains that the sounds at the scene following the crash was reportedly “a woman was screaming her kids were in [the home].”

Our thoughts are with all affected in this terrible accident.
