It looks like life will be imitating art on the upcoming season of ‘Glee.’ In the wake of Cory’s tragic death from a drug overdose, FOX have confirmed that his tribute episode will ‘deal directly with drug addiction.’
Glee has always been famous for teaching teenagers life lessons through the medium of song, they are standing by their morals following the death of one of their own, Cory Monteith. Cory, who was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on July 13 from a toxic combination of heroin and alcohol, will be remembered on the October 10 episode, which will demonstrate the perils of drugs.
Cory Monteith’s Tribute Episode Will Deal With Drug Addiction
Cory, 31, struggled with addiction for years before his death, and spent four weeks this past spring in a rehab facility.
Following his death, Glee creator Ryan Murphy and his girlfriend Lea Michele made the hard decision to kill off Cory’s character Finn, and now we know how that will go about.
FOX entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly told reporters at the Summer Television Critics Association tour: “[October 10] is the episode where Cory’s character will be written off and will deal directly with drug addiction and with the circumstances surrounding Cory’s death.”
Glee certainly are not sugar coating anything about the sad and grim way in which Cory died, and there are really remarkable to do that. Cory would be proud.
Finn’s Death On ‘Glee’ — Ryan Murphy Says Tribute Planned For Episode 3
Ryan revealed to HollywoodLife.com’s sister site TVLine that the show plans to write Cory’s death into the series. He also explained how Glee will carry on without Finn.
We were supposed to be on in the fall with four episodes, and that’s just not going to happen. So we’re going to go on the air with two episodes and right now we’re writing the third episode, which deals with Finn’s death – which, you can imagine, is a very difficult episode to write. [It] has to be done very carefully and with a lot of taste and really making sure that it’s a tribute to Cory. Then, who knows? Maybe we’ll wait to shoot that. We really have to see how everybody feels… We’re going to take a long writers’ hiatus after that episode to refigure the season and continue to take care of the cast and crew and work on setting things up in Cory’s honor – scholarships, what have you – because that’s something we’re dedicated to doing. It’s just a crazy, really difficult, very emotional time. I think what we’re really trying to do is deal with it as a family, which is what that group of people is. Lea is obviously very grief-stricken but she’s also one of the strongest people I know. She wants people to be better and get back to work. So that’s what we’re going to do.
Lea Michele Back On ‘Glee’ Set After Cory Monteith’s Death
While the rest of the cast will resume work on August 5, Lea has already returned.
After Naya Rivera broke the news that Glee would resume on August 5, fans wondered if Lea would be ready to return so soon, but she went back even sooner!
“First day of glee today..And at my first wardrobe fitting for Rachel Berry for Season Five! I’ve missed her so much❤” tweeted Lea on August 1, showing that she is remaining upbeat.
This is certainly going to be a poignant episode of Glee, and everyone in the cast is in our prayers as they return to work minus a great actor.
What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Do YOU think that this episode will be the right way to honor Cory? Or is it too dark?
