We don’t see the dome disappearing anytime soon. CBS has renewed the summertime hit for a 13-episode second season, to air in summer 2014!

The small-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, Under The Dome, has been renewed for a second season, HollywoodLife.com’s sister site TVLine reports. The first of 13-episodes, set to air in 2014, will be written by Stephen.

‘Under The Dome’ Renewed — Season 2 Ordered By CBS

“We’re excited to tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester’s Mill and are thrilled to have the master storyteller himself, Stephen King, tell the first one of next season,” CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said in a statement on July 29.

The series tells the story of a small town who suddenly finds a large dome dropped over it, sealing it off from the rest of the world.

The cast and crew are currently shooting the season finale right now and it ends with “a hell of a cliffhanger,” executive producers Brian K. Vaughan recently said at Comic-Con on July 21, so we’re happy to hear the series won’t end without some closure.

‘Under The Dome': A Ratings Hit

Under The Dome premiered to 13.5 million viewers with a 3.3 demo rating on June 24. The most recent episode attracted 11.4 million viewers.

The series stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris and Britt Robertson. Under The Dome airs Mondays, 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Are you happy UTD was renewed for season 2? What do you hope to see happen next season?

I truly hate seasons that have 12-13 episodes…its just a tease. I get the first season because they’re testing the waters so to speak but if they see how great the ratings are y would they sign a second season with only 13 episodes?? They need to do a full season of 20 or more episodes next year.

It’s a big deal nowadays to put out a new show and it has great ratings like Under the Dome so keep it up and step up and go big or go home!!!!
