Sadly, the ‘Vampire Diaries’ star won’t be suiting up for the big-screen version of E.L. James’ erotic novel, according to a new report.
If you were holding out hope that Ian Somerhalder would score the lead role in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie, it sounds like your dreams are about to be crushed. Author E.L. James made the rounds at Comic-Con parties this past weekend, and according to Us Weekly, she was telling people that “the part won’t go to Ian.”
Fans have been rallying for Ian to play the part since the movie was first announced, and Ian hasn’t exactly been shy about his feelings on the matter. The name “Christian Grey” became a staple of Ian’s interviews, and he gave his most cryptic answer to Andy Cohen on the March 13 episode of Watch What Happens Live:
There are so many young boys in Hollywood up for this role. I think they have a very big job a head of them casting this role. I can’t say anything other than it’s a very interesting story, and whoever plays that role is going to have a lot of fun [come] rehearsal time.
Unfortunately, Ian will just have to settle for having “a lot of fun” while filming The Vampire Diaries, which recently began production on its fifth season.
Garrett Hedlund Turned Down Christian Grey
Us Weekly also reports that Garrett Hedlund was the producers’ first pick to play Christian, but he turned down the plum role because he didn’t want to be tied down — pun intended.
“Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment, and producers wouldn’t let him do just one film,” the source claims.
What a bummer! HollywoodLifers, who do YOU think should play Christian Grey now that Ian and Garrett are both out of the running? Drop a comment with your pick(s) below!
