The huge passenger jet — which was carrying 290 passengers and 16 staff members, according to CNN — crash landed for reasons still unknown, a violent collision that tore the tail of the plane clear off. The jet, which became engulfed in flames soon after crashing, spun 360 degrees before skidding to a stop on the runway. According to officials, 49 passengers were seriously injured, 133 people received minor injuries, and and 123 were not injured, KTVU reports.
The pictures of the terrifying passenger jet crash are downright shocking, showing enormous plumes of black smoke that could be seen for miles, and in other photos, the ceiling of the Boeing 777 burned completely off.
There are also closeup pictures taken by survivors from the crash, fresh off evacuating the plane. The gigantic jet sits on its belly just off the runway, spewing smoke and fire as people can be seen fleeing the crash site.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the passengers who were killed and injured, and to all of those involved in the accident and the rescue efforts.
